I can't stand players who are not comfortable with the ball at their feet. CB is the position where it is most acceptable but really only to a degree. Long term I'd like to see players who are not comfortable with the ball at their feet(Raylor, Willo, Simpson) phased out. (This is just personal preference obviously, no doubt Raylor's a decent squad player)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17271738 O'Neill having a pop at Tiote. Hate the little cunt.

Ryan Taylor cannot play fullback in this match. Gervinho/Walcott would exploit him way too easily. And thus, he shouldn't play at all. Krul Simpson Willo Colo Santon Ben Arfa Cabaye Tiote Jonas Ba Cisse Ba will have to drop into midfield an awful lot in an attempt to counter their extra man in there.

 What are you laughing at? You quoted me and failed to address my point. Then just some vague and irrelevant ramble that Cabaye should play a role similar to Xavi

There's something in this, position does make you greedy and objectively it would look ridiculous to almost all fans of other teams to see people in here saying they're not happy but that's what being a fan of your own club is about: Inspecting and analysing everything minutely and I think the scrutiny is worthy and has been for a while. You're right about us being greedy for good football but this team can play so much better than it has, confidence will help us but so will positive tactics and Pardew telling his players to go out there and really go hard at the opposition rather than waiting for counters, moving the ball slowly up the field and hoping that we can ping in an ok cross. We have the speed, skill and ball-players to move it around, get in behind people and really hurt defences. Fair point, I do think there is potential for us to be better, mostly in terms of attacking intent and style of football. I can just see why Pardew was reluctant to move away from an approach that had gained him so many points. Don't forget that he has gone most of the season with HBA injured and Ba his only decent striker. During that time he managed to collect a very encouraging number of points by making us hard to beat. Hopefully now he has a fit HBA and Cisse he will try to develop the style of the team. But I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a bit of time and we don't actually see the change until next season fully. I do believe that Pardew and the staff would ideally like to play better football - all our signings suggest that. I'm still not convinced the signings are as much players Pardew would bring in, or it's a case of Pardew trying to fit the players brought in to his style of management. If they were all Pardew's preferred signings you'd have expected a more coherent style fitting the players we've got rather than shoe-horning full backs into midfield to try and stop the opposition. Still, I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he'll do better when he's got genuine footballers from back to front. I can't say I like his football philosophy as it looks at this present moment but I do think he's a good character to be at the club. While his aggression towards Martin O'Neill looked unprofessional, I'll bet his players loved it. Plus MON who's usually such a wind up merchant on the touchline just dropped his head and sat back down which was nice. Aye, it is strange like. A blind man could have told you these two things before January: 1)Ba plays best with a target-man alongside him. 2)Pardew likes direct football. So why did he not buy a target man? The signing of Cisse kind of suggested a change our style of football. But we have not seen it yet, if anything it has become more direct. It's a strange one.

What a terrible post. I suggest you read mine again.

As I said it's a discussion for another thread. I personally don't think Ba has the attributes to play the role (number 10) in the formation you posted.
-
You want to play Jonas in a free central role? No, not especially - as hinted in bold. Though I think a more flexible midfield in general would be useful provided we try to play using it and not playing it long. Sorry, that was directed at that guy who quoted you.

Same thing for me when i watched the wolves match 2nd time round - thought he was very poor on the initial showing but 2nd time round i appreciated that he did have quite a good game. suppose it's that he's doing a lot of work without fuss rather than being full of eye-catching moments. Im a huge Cabaye fan but this is a bit pointless. You cannot give much credit to a play-maker doing some simple play-making against ten men under no pressure. It's the least you should expect.

Not a big fan myself. His work rate is very poor and I don't think he quite has the talent to justify it.
-
I agree 100%. I just can't get over my doubts about Pardew right now. God knows, I've tried for long enough

I like this thread, so bump. What I'd like to see next season: Cisse Ba Ben Arfa Lee* Tiote Cabaye LB* Colo Douglas Santon Krul There don't seem to be many good left backs kicking around It would have to be a good attacking left back to allow Ba to move more central. *Lee fromm Bolton provided he recovers OK. [Disclaimer: I also believe Ba does his best work in the box, I just think 4-4-2 is on it's way out at the top end, its a discussion for another thread anyway)

Semtex you could not get a bite with your shit patter on the last page, so why not try discuss things reasonably rather than calling people wankers and such?

Jonas was given a free role and completed a lot of short passes, and that it, he did not create 1 chance. That's not good enough when you have a free role. Why anyone would give someone with little to no end product this free role is beyond me.

How often does he give the ball away through passing? not very often iam aware his passes are usually ones of little riskbut thats all that would be required of him in that role. That's pretty key man. There are no players in the premier league who do not have a high short pass completion rate. Jonas is a poor passer of the ball and has poor vision.
-
Jonas and his accurate passing, what? He has almost none of the attributes required to play in that position, besides work rate.
-
It's a worrying proposition and one not without precedent.
-
It's a nice thought but remember Wolves dominated us with the extra man in there? I would not risk it.

Why does anyone think Jonas should play centrally?
