Exactly. The window is open for another 7wks? They’ll probably see how ASM does in training as well as trying to shift some of the unwanted squad members. If they can they’ll pounce. Meanwhile the pot of money left for this windows signings is probably earmarked for a different position. Even the Harvey Barnes lovers on here have probably admitted it’s the right not the left where we might look for a wide forward.

Then I’d choose Joelinton to start. ASM to come off the bench. Which I feel he could do consistently over a season. I just don’t see how Barnes starts for us in the big games. If this is a squad signing and he’s happy replacing Anderson’s and Ritchie’s minutes then fair enough but you want to be paying nearer £25m if you possibly can.

If he’s the player from the Euro’s then obviously a no brainer. Just ain’t seen him play in years. I do think it be great to have another Italian on board to help him and Tonali settle in. Think Bruno and Joelinton have both benefited from a similar scenario.

I can’t argue against age as you both rightly point out will be a part of it. I just feel from seeing Shearer pre and post injury and Wilson there is a similarity in that sharpness that is lost after a big injury. Not sure if available on YT but iirc Wilson scored a hat trick on his EPL debut at West Ham (3-4). His pace and power and sharpness was a real standout. Now he’s wiser a bit like Shearer had to become.

Your not. But you are also not factoring in he’d score even before his injuries. That chance at home against West Ham created by Gordon would’ve been dispatched. He’s lost a yard and half clearly.

And he’s nowhere near as good. Before them he was razor sharp. The Wilson we have is the Shearer after his injuries. His game has totally changed and uses his experience more. Wether that works as well on the wing is my concern.
