That’s why I’m not overly harsh on Man Utd’s fees as clubs always charged them extra knowing they had the cash. Gordon was for this season but Everton needed the cash for FFP and cash flow etc due to ownership issues so we pounced at the price. Livramento was probably for next season but Southampton relegated so have grabbed him now. With his injury and position we can ease him in gently which will suite us both. Tonali was our number 1 target for this window and we’ve got him this window. Like Liverpool’s approach the plan is to get THE player we want. Rather than in the order we need necessarily at times. Trust the process.

If you’d renewed Bruno’s contract when everyone was crying on here for it to be done before the Cup Final you’d now be paying Tonali a lot more than needed and probably Barnes to a degree. Let the window close then renew his contract first international break.

The reason was they were paying silly money and not scouting well. He played for them 9 times in 3 seasons ? We sold them an absolute physical wreck. They got their revenge to a lesser extent with Owen. Anyway you missed my point with the comparison completely.

He was very good but caused too much disruption to the team as was rarely fit or looked like he’d last 90mins so never really built a solid partnership with anyone. Yep. Keep repeating myself. He’s very good and I love him as a player and a person but Real have already upgraded their midfield beyond him and will continue to in the future. He’s not athletic enough.

Without wanting to restart the ASM/Barnes debate it was quite telling in the ground last night how excited both home/away/neutral fans got excited when Mitoma got the ball. That little buzz of excitement you probably don’t get when just watching on TV. Quite sad we had that with ASM and could have showcased it in USA.

It’s a tricky balance. You want players bedded in but 2 friendlies and 3 league games before window closes you could pick up a big key injury so do you leave it until last few days.
