I don't know if all nations do this, but one thing I never understand is why we seem to have our most composed takers kick first and tail off. The first penalty should always be taken by your main penalty taker like as it sets things in motion for the rest, but when it comes down to "miss and you're out" you don't want Ashley Cole taking it ffs, you want someone like Rooney to step up. I would have even sent Joe Hart down to take a kick before Ashley Young, it was fucking obvious he was going to miss. This is unless you have to name your kickers to the referee (you don't have to as far as i'm aware?).

Tbf they do have a point, Catts would probably have shattered Pirlo's ankle within 20 minutes. We'd have been down to 10 men like.

Yeah I agree actually, there would need to be a whole new appeal system (or whatever) to implement it properly. Not that I would be against such a system if it was done properly. I really don't see the fuss about "was it over?" incidents anyway, they're few and far between and one of the last things that needs sorting out in the game imo when we have goals given/taken away every week for other incorrect decisions. It's just a flavour of the month thing.

Dunno against Ukraine i thought we were quite lucky..... in a sense i agree with Pirlo i would'nt go as far him.... i dont think we were outplayed by France we kept them at arms length, the Sweden could have easily gone either way and i felt Ukraine were a bit unlucky. Having said that i think Pirlo has been a bit stupid here and will only motivate the lads. Oh yeah Italy was top of the group until Spain's late winner. France were shit and despite their abundance of talent in forward positions they carried very little offensive threat (not just against us either). The Sweden game could have went either way, but just because we had to come from behind doesn't mean we were lucky, the fact it allowed us to display our ability to score goals when we needed was actually ecouraging if anything. Ukraine yeah, first half especially they deserved to lead and if they were a better side they probably would have done, all in all though we comfortably finished top of the group. p.s. It's just mind games from Pirlo, I doubt he even believes what he's said here.

I thought Gosling looked shit everytime he came on but Pardew seemed to rate him ahead of Abeid and Vuckic so I have hope that there is something there and he is/was a bit rusty (although with Vuckic it may have been more down to their style of play).

I think Chelsea winning the Champions League will have prevented most neutrals from writing us off tbh now that we've topped our group. Us, Italy and Portugal are in the same boat imo. (That's not to say I think we're as good as Italy, I just think we have a near enough chance as they do of winning the tournament)
