  1. come on man you lot, it's purely so we can ask for a bigger fee when we sell him in january

Spot on, but I think it will be summer.

    i was taking the p*ss....were you ?

Definitely not. Ashleys will have learnt from Enrique / Barton and wont want Jonas away on the cheap in the summer.

Much easier to tie up now than when Marveaux is keeping him out.

Before everyone gets too carried away, remember Ashley does want us to be self sufficient. That will require us to make money on players like Jonas.

Come in here expecting happy faces. I was wrong...

The vast majority is very happy. There's some dafties out there though who just have to put a negative spin on everything. This is nothing else than very good news.

    aye

happy as larry with this news :)

  2. DAVIDE Santon is poised to make his return from a knee injury against Swansea City reserves in south Wales on Wednesday night (7pm).

The FA Premier Reserve League fixture takes place at the Parc y Scarlets Stadium, the home of rugby union side Llanelli.

Santon was injured two weeks ago in training but saw a specialist last week in London to have the fluid drained from his knee.

United boss Alan Pardew revealed after the capital trip he did not feel the former Inter Milan man required surgery. Santon is yet to make his Premier League bow for the Magpies after joining the club on the eve of transfer deadline day from the San Siro club.

His only pitch time so far for the Magpies was in the 6-0 reserve-team victory over Norwich City earlier this month at Whitley Park.

Santon was due to train today at the club’s Benton base and will join Peter Beardsley’s second string for their trip to take on the Swans.

Pardew told the Chronicle: “I think Santon will play at Swansea on Wednesday and we will see from there.”

Pardew was a satisfied figure on Saturday afternoon as Hatem Ben Arfa finally made his Premier League return for the Magpies in the 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers.

Ben Arfa topped up his pitch time with a 16-minute cameo against Rovers after successfully starring in the Carling Cup at Nottingham Forest in midweek.

With Sylvain Marveaux also putting in a cameo appearance, Pardew said: “Everybody else looks very, very strong.

“We still have Davide Santon to feature as well, so we are in a good position.”

It remains to be seen whether out-of-sorts striker Nile Ranger will make the long trip to Swansea.

Meanwhile, Shola Ameobi’s absence against Blackburn was due to a shoulder injury.

How people can believe this is anything other than just taking the p*ss is beyond me.

fuck me, that just looks totally ridiculous....pleased i cant see any of them from my set in the se corner

  4. Hope Given hasn't made Cabaye more cautious about his shooting from outside the box, think he'll terrorise a short on confidence keeper.

 Aye, you've got to feel a tad sorry for a keeper who comes up against Cabaye, Ben-Arfa and Marveaux all hitting form at the same time.

tbh though, keepers love having long range shots at them cause most of the time they will save them and it gives them confidence in games, worst thing is when youve had nowt for 89 minutes then someone gets a freekick right on the edge of the box.

Possibly, but I guess keepers like having long range crap shots to deal with. The sort of babies Cabaye was sending in would have got him a hat-trick against a lot of other keepers.

yeah I reckon he would have scored some of those against another keeper, givens probably on of if not the best shot stopper in the league,  Its the curlers he fears from range due to his height.  He'll lap up power drives all day.

the one which had him beaten on saturday then hit the bar :o my load was almost shot

  5. Hatem Ben Arfa

HATEM BEN ARFA has admitted he can’t wait to get “back to work” in a Newcastle shirt tonight.

The Chronicle revealed on September 2 how the French international was making good progress in his comeback from the ankle injury he sustained in Kansas City during the Magpies’ US tour back in July.

The blow in Kansas came after just 35 minutes of his return in the friendly against the MLS outfit – and nine months after sustaining a double leg break at Manchester City following a sickening tackle by Nigel De Jong.

Ben Arfa’s return to the fray this evening is testament to the many hours of hard work put in by the United medical and backroom team, who sensibly did not hand the playmaker a comeback date.

There had been talk of an October 1 return at Wolverhampton Wanderers, however Ben Arfa is now looking forward to linking up with his fellow countrymen Sylvain Marveaux and Mehdi Abeid at the City Ground tonight.

Ben Arfa told the Chronicle: “I’m excited – the idea of playing again makes me smile.

“I have not played as many games for Newcastle as I would like.

“Now I want to take my chance to get a game and help the team get through to the next round.

“It is great to be back. I can’t wait to play again.”

Ben Arfa has worked tirelessly since returning from his double leg break at Eastlands.

The player initially headed straight for Clairefontaine for rehab, but made regular visits to a top French specialist in Paris, while also making regular Eurostar journeys to London to team up with United club doctor Paul Catterson.

Reflecting on his return to fitness, Ben Arfa, who has not played a competitive match since the 2-1 defeat at Man City, said: “Since I have been back I have worked very hard to get fit.

“I was in France first and then working with the group.

“Everybody is looking forward to the game with Nottingham Forest tonight.”

Ben Arfa’s Cannes-based advisor Simon Stainrod paid tribute to the 24-year-old’s rapid progress.

The former Strasbourg star said: “He had the horrific experience of his broken leg last season, but he is made of sterner stuff.

“The aftercare he has received from the specialists in Paris and the Newcastle United medical team has been different class.”
