Proper fence sitting here. As I fucking despise what offside has become. But at the same time, the whole ‘daylight’ thing seems a bit too far the other way. No idea how to strike a balance. As the current toe, shoulder, eyebrow offside and however long to decide, even with the automated offsides. Is equally as shit. I do think it’s shit how it’s taking goals out the game and how it doesn’t feel like why offside was brought in in the first place. I suppose the minute you bring technology into it and present it as a black and white/yes or no scenario. It has kind of changed as a law and the way it is implemented.

12:00 kick off on a Sunday is far from ideal. Shame it wasn’t the later afternoon game on the Sunday or better yet, a night game midweek.

Tonali one was never a pen. O’Reilly chucks his leg across to initiate the contact. Even Lee Hendrie, who didn’t seem too complimentary about us all afternoon, agreed. The Barnes free kick was a clear foul. Barnes shifts the ball on too quickly for Van Hecke and then waits for the contact. He could have got out the way, yes. As he misses him with his right and then his trailing leg catches him on the way through. Van Hecke has slid in from side on/behind him and got nowhere near the ball. Why is it on Barnes to make sure there is no contact, even if minimal?

I didn’t think he was at his best. But certainly much more like it. He still has the annoying habit of cutting in and sort of slowing down to survey the play. But it often means the chance for a shot or pass has gone. Especially when he tends to ignore Tino on the overlap. Was a fag paper away from winning us a pen 2 minutes after coming on. So he was certainly back to contributing in a positive way.

Gordon in for Barnes? Mental IMO.

I thought he was alright first half. Looked much sharper. Second half he was really frustrating though.

Despite no goal involvements. I thought that was one of his best all round performances for us. He was really bright and direct on both wings. Took up some nice positions centrally between the lines to receive the ball too.

I thought the bloke being unmarked between our two CB’s was the issue here. But thankfully he missed.

Annoying that he always moves Barnes over to the right. But I did think Barnes actually looked good on the right today. Especially when he was coming into central areas to receive the ball.

Point gained. I’ll take that. Much better when Wilson came on and Isak got involved. Barnes our MOTM.

Barnes has been one of the only positives today. Trippier has been pretty good defensively, I suppose.

Weird performance. Some really crisp passing at times and worked some nice openings. Whilst simultaneously looking toothless and half asleep. Isak is nowhere near fit.

That formation would surely mean Trippier coming inside more to CM like Hall would do in the Arsenal game. Not sure I fancy Schar being left defending that channel too often. I think Willock gets another go on Sunday and he really needs to take his chance these last 3-4 games. I do think maybe we’ll go with 5 at the back again v Arsenal.
