James Maddison (now playing for Tottenham Hotspur)

Rumoured £195kpw? X52, x5 years = nearly £51m? -
More than good enough? He was dropped for Keane and Tarkowski last year! Good enough for the championship though, sure.
-
Right footed and he’d probably be a target.
-
£40kpw off the wage bill though- presume we won’t be paying his contract up and just let him go.
-
Yeah, can’t see him getting 365!
-
Goals scored in a season? (Lewandowski got 41). It’s not a particularly challenging league imo, so he should have a decent chance if he goes.
-
Yes please. Huge and popular club. And play in B&W. Source?
-
Yep. We allegedly bid twice last year and were still linked in the Jan window, along with Forest, Liverpool, Milan amongst others.
-
Rumour is that we don’t want to pay the release clause in one go as we would supposedly have to, but once it expires we would then have to negotiate a higher price but be allowed to pay over years? I think, anyway?
-
I’m sure we can afford it, although he’d probably want £100kpw+, but we won’t have too much wriggle room for other signings unless we start getting rid of players too. Our wage to income is pretty poor at best (or at least was very poor before the new Sela deal). Plus he’d get offered a lot more if he went to Liverpool, so let’s hope that is just talk. You mentioned Arsenal earlier (I think?)- their wages paid out in 2021-22 accounted for just 58 per cent of turnover and only in 2020-21, the season played almost totally behind closed doors, has the ratio gone higher than 70 per cent. Ours in comparison for the last set of accounts showed a wages-to-turnover ratio of 94.6 per cent. New sponsorship deals undoubtedly help bring this down, but not by much if we’re giving £100kpw+ away to every new signing. edit- also, comparatively, Arsenals income was £369m whilst ours was £180m.
-
It’s wages we mainly have a problem with.
-
Like this one…hopefully.
-
Thought he was an AM, but looking via google he seems to be a CM, yes. Edit- still, there are plenty of players out there- Terrier, Neres, Chukwueze etc
-
Fallows and Hunter have both been there for years, yes, but a big part of the recruitment/scouting network is also the DoF position which has changed three times in the last two years. edit- Russ Richardson only got appointed in summer 2021 too.
-
Yes, because Edwards and then Ward left, hence they’ve got a new recruitment team which is what you asked about.
-
Their DoF, Edwards (and then his successor, Ward) left.

Tweet above literally says “if other targets don’t come off”.

Talk of him getting around £125k, the same as Bruno and Trippier.
