  1. As mentioned before, signing Allen is all well and good, but it's not really a purchase that has highlighted their weak points. Although having said that, they probably just need a striker who can finish. They peppered a few teams last season without scoring. The game they had against WBA at Anfield was just plain daft.

My record with names is quite woeful upto now, in terms of how long they stayed. Woodgate, Milner & Parker and before that Ginola. Steadied the ship recently but i'm waiting till this transfer nonsense finishes before getting the new shirt.
  3. I think Liverpool lack real penetrative width. Obviously Stewart Downing had a disastrous campaign and trying to get his confidence back is a challenge in itself. Not sure of Adam Johnson's story at City but if I was Rodger's he'd be someone I would look at. Dangerous player who needs games. Liverpool every time I watch them have this same style. A languid passing game with no real cutting edge, just a mixture of decent players all doing their jobs correctly ,a solid defence (usually), combined with an over-reliance on Gerrard. Never struck as being a good footballing side in my view.
  4. And also not Spearing's biggest fan. Out of his depth imo
  5. Something to cling onto I suppose...
  6. People on twitter taking that banner far to seriously, what a shame you can't have a laugh at games.
  7. i'm not so sure it is a fair price though. it's a lot for a 27yr old full back who's never played outside the french league. splitting the difference may be fair enough and i think it would be enough. Edited my post since whilst you quoted it, to basically tie in with what your saying. Hopefully both parties can meet somewhere in the middle, although at the minute both clubs seem to be taking stubborn approaches.
  8. I know it sounds quite obvious, but if we want him as much as we're proclaiming , we'll be back and back in with surely a better offer. I don't think Lille are playing hard-ball because of the Cabaye situation, they knew of that clause and spoke with no bitterness when Cabaye left. They want what they see as a fair price, and no doubt we've angered them with a series of what they interpret as offensive bids. Whilst not abandoning our policy completley, we can at least hope our owners alleviate it ever so slightly to get this transfer done, although how likely that is is anyone's guess. Can't underestimate how much of a lift this would give the entire club.
  9. Garcia's comments are deliberately forceful in an attempt to show they hold all the aces. He also mentioned Debuchy's international career and how its key he behaves. Verbal reverse-psychology and indeed propaganda. After our last bid was turned down I felt that could have been it, but given Debuchy's comments following the offer and his manager's sour reply, I reckon Lille are fearing another bid.
  10. What do people reckon then? He's begrudgingly accepted it? Or he's even more pissed off?
  11. I thought the general consensus was that they were looking at 8 million euro, or around 6 million quid?
  12. Who? lol, presume they are not called that much on here?
  13. The quotes today from Debuchy may have been what United were banking on, presuming they see this carrying on.
  14. 8 million euro is value imo. I know it's Ashley but if we offered that I doubt others would label us as kamikaze spenders.
  15. Yeh, which makes our inability to get a deal sorted all the more infuriating.
  16. Absolutely spot on. x2 the bold bit is exactly why i think we've f***ed up if it doesnt happen just sillyness Again, where's the bids from Chelsea, Inter, etc. if it makes so much common sense just to put an extra €1-2m for such a quality player? Why isn't the whole of Europe lapping up such a bargain? It is odd why Inter & Chelsea are not bidding but bear in mind as current and former Champions League winners their market is bigger than ours, not to mention the money they have available. Not to belittle us like but to get Debuchy at the price Lille are quoting would be exceptional business.
  17. I'v said it before, all our transfers last season excluding Cisse had some sort of catch or advantage to us that made securing the deal slightly less difficult. Cabaye - Clause activated Santon - Frozen out Obertan - Not Wanted Ben Arfa - Decent fee, but nursing serious injury and not welcome back at previous club Ba - No fee involved Marveaux - No fee involved The season before that Tiote was a fine buy, but his talent was not well documented as Debuchy's is now. Debuchy involves none of this, it's just a flat out transfer fee for an established and class player. The Cisse deal was promising but we seem to be getting nowhere with our policy at the mo. It's going to be a long summer if we keep trying to fleece clubs.
  18. I was like that to begin with, but it's happening so much now that it's becoming a piss take. If Seydoux is trying to coax that extra dosh outa Ashley he wont succeed imo.
  19. Agreed. I'm getting a bit tired of this 'possible sell on value' angle we and the press seem insistant on when looking for players. What about the here and now, and looking to add good quality players at decent fees, of which Debuchy falls into both categories easily. It's a signing that would give the club / city a huge lift, it would make a statement to other clubs and most vitally it would improve our squad considerably, yet even with all these factors our owners are fannying about over a million and a half quid, and putting clauses on that will most likely never be activated. It's not fooling Lille and its not fooling other clubs, and if they are willing to limit the offer for Debuchy to 4.5million, you have to wonder how far we are gunna get with other targets and the market overall. Personally I reckon this could be the end of it, which frankly is a bit of a disaster imo. Unless Debuchy really spits the dummy out, which to me looks unlikely. The statement's he released earlier were concise granted, but I can't see a transfer request forthcoming or boycotting training every day, just doesnt look that type of character to me.
  20. And what we've actually offered, as 6million quid will do the trick most likely.
  21. Do not despair I had that down as a quality signing.
  22. What Michel Seydoux expects and what Llambias & Ashley are prepared to offer are two different things mind. Be sheer lunacy if we dont budge up to the requested amount. It's an incredible price frankly.
  23. Even if he does cut to the quick, that's not exactly gunna please Debuchy. But absolutely agree with everyone here, pay the f***ing money.
  24. I thought @BeloEmre's reaction was the best...
