We'll just have to disagree, we were a total shambles. Aye we were of course a shambles. Villa were unbelievably bad though

We were 1 place above them in the league and our head to head was played 2 drew 2. 1 place and 8 points with a game in hand. Head to head doesn't really matter, we were better than Sunderland most of the time during their winning run over us

If we hadn't brought Rafa in we might have matched that Villa points haul at the end of the season. We wouldn't have but anyway that's not the argument. The argument is that we were not almost as bad as them last season and we were starting from a higher base this season. For example 7 of our starting lineup today were here last season while Villa had 3 in their starting lineup that were here last season

It's less than 1/3 of a point a game, hardly massive. You are also ignoring that it wasn't all down to our improvement that we finished so far ahead of them. They got 1 point between when Rafa was appointed and the end of the season. They were miles worse than us

I'm fairly sure that if he's still here his target will be to stay up and if we do I'll see that as success. Rafa will be gone if he doesn't get money to spend that will give us a much better team than merely being relegation battlers

When Rafa arrived we were 8 points ahead of Villa. That's still a lot for how many games were played at that time. Also, you didn't mention anything about who was managing us in your original post

Expecting anything else will be totally unreasonable as we'll be up against clubs who have had the sky money to spend while we'll have peanuts from the Championship. Rafa isn't going to be happy with just avoiding relegation and neither should we

Don't see the point in analysing how Rafa is doing until next season. The football is boring but if we do well next season it will be forgotten
