I think the main reason is this Justin Barnes bloke.. he got more involved in the January window of the McClaren season. We signed players no problem during that summer, but when he got involved everything slowed to a stop and hasnt changed since.

Im pretty sure Justin Barnes came in just after the McClaren spending spree.

Heres the trick.. we pay for transfers upfront and dont seem to mind selling players over a period of time for x amount in installments. So if we sell a player for £30 million over 6 years thats £5 million a season. By us paying upfront for our deals we can only use £5 million of that £30 million to buy a new player. We dont get to invest the full £30 million in a new player. It may contribute to paying for 6 players over the 6 seasons however, but it stops us having the same buying power as cloobs who are willing to do deals paying in installments.

Is this scenario at all possible? You have 2 businesses, 1 is massively profitable the other makes nowt therefore why not take some of the profitable bit of business 2 and move it to business 1 meaning the 2nd makes a bigger loss while the 1st a bigger profit.
