= Targetts performance these six months.

those who say he is “reliable” as a LB now, I can only assume he didn’t really watch the game and just look at stats or past memories.

Ffs he’s played like 3 games since January. This forum man [emoji38]

Think it's the smarter move than signing a left back, personally.  Yes Trippier is a level above both left backs, but look at the dropoff behind Trippier at right back. It'd weaken the team far more and it's inevitable he can't play a whole CL season. Rotation now and then will get the best out of Trippier.

People seem to forget how consistently good Targett was until his injury. He would give us a 7/10 every game. His injury record is generally solid so perhaps they're banking on a return to that. With Trippier (and potentially now Livramento) as attacking options on the right side, then two less attacking left backs is fine for balance. If we face a team that parks the bus, we can start both Livramento and Trippier since they're both comfortable on the left.

When Bruno/Trippier were out it hurt us and I think we've moved to address the squad depth weaknesses and done it with first-team quality players rather than signing players just to be a backup.

    Nailed it.

That would be the reason, if he wanted to go. But I think the reality is that second choice is about his level in the PL.

Dubravka would be easily first choice for pretty much all of the bottom half in the PL.

Count again please. And how is that even relevant? As I said there's been times on here when plenty of people have disagreed with me but that doesn't mean I'm automatically wrong. You seem to be struggling with the concept that just because someone holds a different opinion to yourself it doesn't mean that they're wrong. Until you can grasp that, a forum that exists on people's opinions probably isn't for you.

I haven't got a clue where he'll end up next season and frankly I don't care. The Championship would be my guess. That's his level. That is also the level Sunderland will be playing at. Plenty of people on here believed Sunderland had their chance of promotion last season and blew it so are clearly expecting a lower/mid table finish for them next year.

Ok so just to clarify - if all of the championship’s top ten clubs disagree with you, as well

as half of the posters in this thread, you’ll still think your opinion is worth more.

The irony of you saying that I can’t understand differing opinions when you’ve been called out so many times in this exact thread but still insist that your opinion is correct is beyond belief [emoji38]

And plenty agreeing with me. Like I said before most on here disagreed with me when I said Vurnon Anita wasn't very good, so I'd take that with a pinch of salt anyway. It's fine though. Football is a game of opinions. You have yours and I have mine.

My opinion is that he's nowhere near good enough for the PL but good enough for the vast majority of Championship clubs, such is the huge gulf in quality between the 2 leagues.

you’ve got around one person agreeing with you and around 7 or 8 wholeheartedly disagreeing with you [emoji38]

Ok, so do you think he’ll be playing for a top 6 championship club next season?

Tonali is not gettable. Milan have no need to sell, we have the strongest financial foundations in Italy with Juventus--and they are a mess administratively--and of all of our players, we need him for homegrown rules.

You'd have to pay 100m, sterling, to get him.

Barella is more likely (but not at the price quoted) and Inter need to sell players. It looks more like our owners want to show that they are turning down EPL offers to ingratiate themselves with fans.

Our owner just fired (wrongly) Maldini because his ego got bruised, I doubt he's about to sell Tonali. He's on thin ice with fans as is.

Italian media is far more inclined towards protecting Inter, as they are favored by the journalist class and elite of society.

While all that makes sense, you were wrong about Botman and Maldini in the past, so I’m inclined to believe this could happen

With all due respect to many people on here I'd back my opinion against most. On the subject of rating midfielders, I still think back to the many hours I wasted trying to tell people that Vurnon Anita was actually no good when most people disagreed with me [emoji38]

Not saying Jeff Hendrick is a world beater as he isn't. But he's made a career out of getting into better teams than Sunderland currently are.

You've got 5-6 Newcastle fans actively disagreeing with you on this. You're coming across as deluded in the extreme. I don't base my opinion on how good or bad Sunderland are. I base it on the fact Jeff Hendrick is a rotten footballer.

If you value your opinion so highly I assume you think Jeff will be moving to a top 6 Champ club next season? If not, why not?

My football knowledge is spot on. I called it back in September after watching half a dozen or so Championship games on Sky that it was the worst standard Championship in years and was proven right.

Watched your last game v Luton Town and it was embarrassing how (no disrespect to Luton) a bunch of hammer throwers were able to completely dominate you and beat you so easily. Your midfield looked so weak. Hendrick would walk into your team 100%.

You're talking absolute bollocks here I'm afraid. Hendrick is awful. I don't see any reason why he gets into a top 6 Championship team - where is the logic there?

Personally think his NUFC career will be pretty short if we're chasing players of Barella's quality. His opportunities to shine will be too infrequent for someone as inconsistent as he is. Don't think he's a bad player, he's just not good enough for us.

Wish he'd scored sooner than the Chelsea game.

This is such a shortsighted comment.

in Sean's interview he seems to be taking some of the blame. the red card at west ham?

"This one makes me sad. It's not a regret, because you can't regret doing a tackle, but it's the moment in my career I beat myself up about the most. Me and my brother had played the two games before it, and he got taken out of the team after that. There's a million reasons as to why that could happen but I beat myself up about that because I feel as though if I didn't get sent off, we would have kept playing together - he would have stayed in the team for longer, and would have been able to establish himself more.

It's a weird picture. I'm getting punished there, but I don't think I got the most punishment in that moment. I feel like Matty got more than me."

Can someone explain this? Why would Sean getting sent off harm Matty?

Then you've clearly not understood me.

Rodri lead City for league games this year and he's played - but for two games - DM. De Bruyne has played either CM or AM. I didn't say we should never sign versatile players. I said we have several that fit that mould, now we need specialists. That's why Pep spent 100m on a player that he's only using as a left winger.

Are you trying to imply that Stones, Walker and Bernardo weren’t massive parts of City’s team this season?

  12. 1 hour ago, Viana said:

    Interesting.

See what you said is also one of my concerns. We already have a few 'versatile' players. Give me specialists now. Give me players that are in the conversation for top 10 in the world. That's how you match City.

A very odd comment given the likes of Bernardo, Alvarez, Stones, Walker and de Bruyne have all been asked to play multiple different positions under Pep and excelled there [emoji38]

People still over-rating Dubs I see.

We need a backup GK that has a similarish profile to Pope. At least one that steps off his line. That changes so much about our game

And I expect Dubs to go in search of first-team football.

Dubs is one of, if not the, best back up keeper in the league ffs [emoji38]

Have you actualy seen who the other top 6 have on their bench?
