I thought Wood was and is poor, obviously he has ability and shows it now and again, but overall i think he's not great. However, he was vital for us at the time. The team was the sum of its parts, and sometimes some parts aren't great, but the term sum of its parts sums us up since Eddie has been here. It's why I look at who Eddie wants to sign and think 'well not sure about this one'. And then watch the team be so good because of that mantra. Sum of its parts, no dickhead rule, constant hardwork, Eddie's calmness. It's why I love Eddie and his team so much, it's all about togetherness and the team.

I suppose it depends how you see it. I think the stat is we had the equal best defensive record, or one of the best up to the point Pope got injured. I think that matters more than whether Pope can ping passes around, or even have better ability with his feet than he has now. We do indeed need to upgrade. However, my opinion in the short term is, it's not that something we need to address right now. And the pressing issue imo, was more us not having the squad to play how we wanted to, due to the injuries we had. We had no option to rotate or rest, and even try different things. Be interesting to see what happens next season on how we approach new signings, especially with all the things we've been highlighting and have differing opinions on. I think it's going to fascinating actually, to see what positions we address in the next couple of months.

Fair points. I guess the financial gymnastics we need to do comes down the judgement calls on what positions. And as you say, £30m now rather than £50m is better. If it does happen, it'll show a ruthlessness in Eddie, i'm not sure we all see.

Why would we need to upgrade Nick Pope ? That's the part that makes no sense to me. I just can't see us bringing in a GK at over £30m alongside Pope. And i can't see Pope leaving, just don't see that as happening, but you never know. And you're right, it's a good shock if true with his ability.

With our spending limited, I just can't see us laying out £30m plus on a GK. Just doesn't make any sense really.
