Not really the point. If he turned out to be average, every decent player in the squad you try and negotiate a new contract with will have their agent saying “well he’s contributing more than him, and he’s on £150k, so…”

He’s also currently on £150k p/w, and would presumably be looking for a bit of a raise to come here, so getting someone in to (almost) be our highest paid player, who’s yet to conclusively prove he can reach the levels he did pre-serious injury, would be a tad risky to say the least.
