    Sunderland

From the Athletic Sunderland have announced that an agreement has been reached for Kyril Louis-Dreyfus to acquire current owner Stewart Donald’s controlling interest in the club. The club are waiting on approval by the EFL for Louis-Dreyfus to become chairman in the new year. How long has Donald been trying to sell the club? Donald became owner of Sunderland in 2018, buying the club from its billionaire owner Ellis Short. Donald has been actively trying to sell Sunderland since the start of the year. Chief executive Jim Rodwell said in October that Sunderland had a preferred bidder currently in a period of exclusivity. It then emerged that that bidder was a consortium led by minority shareholder Juan Sartori and Louis-Dreyfus. Who is Louis-Dreyfus? The 23-year-old is one of three heirs to the Louis Dreyfus Company. Their worldwide empire has involvement in agriculture, food processing and international shipping, and amassed sales worth £33.6 billion in its most recent financial year. His late father Robert was Marseille’s largest shareholder from 1996 until his death from leukemia in 2009, when control of the club was handed to Margarita. He has been heavily involved in football since a young age, undertaking an internship at Marseille’s training ground as a teenager. Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy, who played for Marseille between 2013 and 2016, and current vice-captain Florian Thauvin are also said to regard Louis-Dreyfus as a younger brother, such was his presence around the club’s first-team squad. What has been said? In a statement, Louis-Dreyfus said it would be “an enormous honour to become involved with such a historic club, in a city renowned for its rich football culture going back to 1879.” He said that he had “a long-term strategy which integrates Sunderland’s proud traditions with a modern structure and approach”. “We want to create a team that is entertaining to watch and that embodies the spirit and the culture of those who attend, thereby reconnecting the team with its fanbase, whose support will be so vital to our success.” Current owner Donald added that he believed “experience, combined with a good plan, will provide a platform for the club to progress and I look forward to watching that progress from afar”.
  2. Think that’s down to the on going process of the takeover of it falls through I expect to see that highlighted more.
  3. That sort of thing happens every game. Normally a manager would notice it and work on it in training
  4. As bad as Bruce is I’d be waiting till all the take over is sorted before sacking Bruce. It has a massive effect on who we attract. With take over I’d go anyone of Allegri, Poch, Rafa, rose. Without Favre, Marsch, Alonso, Howe.
  5. Maybe it is tbh. Doesn’t make him a good manager.
  6. We should sign him if the takeover goes through
  7. I don’t like the diving my biggest problem with him is that he’s so one footed
  8. Still think Pardew was way worse. Both as a manager and person.
  9. Was he smiling? Wasn’t it just another one of his weird facial expressions.
  10. Yeah but seemingly with is that isn’t the case.
  11. Getting the excuse in for any upcoming terrible results. Insinuating Covid will affect the team for the rest of the season  This guy is unbearable. Tbf, it could? If we continue to have players missing that will clearly be a problem.
  12. Forgot about Suarez. He deserved a ballon d’or that year imo
  13. Henry, Alonso, Fabregas when he was first at Arsenal. Rooney at Everton.
  14. I think for most the time Rafa was here it was pretty dire imo. It got better towards the end but I don’t think even then I would consider it great to watch. But yes it was functional and we genuinely did seem to know how to defend rather than just hoping our gk could make sone saves
  15. Rafa’s football was dire but he had worse players and less money than Bruce. While I doubt it would ever be bielsa like football under Rafa I think it would be better than what we are currently seeing and better than what we actually saw for most of Rafa’s tenure. As for those suggestions Half the problem with these people is they lack imagination.
  16. We might win. We might lose. The football will be terrible.
  17. The Athletic claiming we want Rojo on loan
