The point being made isn't that the Eddie out people not posting have changed their mind, it's that they don't post when we've won.
-
Yeah, those are fair representation of the two options I think (although I think the 'they all balance out' thing is just not true at all). Personally I'd rather deal with the 'he didn't actually gain an advantage' aspect from the first option than the massive variety of problems you get and concessions you have to make with the second option.
-
The baseline for the technology when it was rolled out at the World Cup was something like 10 seconds (just guessing based on memory), they didn't faff about like last night, and the graphic would only come up later during a break in play. I remember some people still not liking it, but I thought it was a great start tbh and there's no reason those calculations can't eventually be done almost instantaneously.
-
The technology isn't currently fit for purpose because it takes far too long - but that needn't be the case. The Premier League uses a system that's slower than the FIFA/UEFA version, and will eventually imo be almost instantaneous. I would imagine we'd all hate goal line technology if it took 3+ minutes to give us the answer. Do you remember when some channels used to put a flag graphic up on the screen when the linesman flagged? That's how I imagine the technology working.
-
Do you really think Linesmen are working with that in mind? To my mind they're attempting to be just as draconianly accurate as any automated offside system is.
-
Yeah but you're replying to me and disagreeing with my point when I'm only talking about offsides. Where VAR should and shouldn't be involved is another thing I think. VAR imo shouldn't even be involved in offsides partly because it isn't fit for purpose and partly because it takes far too long. In my mind VAR being involved in offsides is as daft as if VAR was involved in goal line decisions in a world where goal line technology already exists.
-
We're talking about offsides, not VAR.
-
The VAR world and video games are part of the world we live in though, the technology is there to make it a reality and it's not something that only exists in the abstract.
-
I dunno, I think football's too tribalistic for that. All it would take is a bit of inconsistency between decisions and everyone would hate it.
-
I thought we were friends. Offside might have been brought in for one subjective reason over 100 years ago, but while I get that there's a school of thought that says that's fine, where there's subjectivity there's inconsistency and where there's inconsistency there's unfairness, or corruption masquerading as subjectivity. All fine and unsolvable with something that can only ever be subjective, but like it or not, offside is now one of the few things in football that can be measured objectively as a binary thing. You're either offside or you're not, to a pedantic level admittedly, but true nonetheless. Going back to some individual and arbitrary definition of what is and isn't an advantage, with lots of room for error and corruption to manoeuvre might give us game flow as a nice side effect, but I'd much rather we just get real-time automated offsides, get the best of both worlds, and not even have to think about it tbh.
-
It can't if it doesn't exist, which is the point - I think it should.
-
A bit of humility, patience, slack and loyalty would do tbh.
-
Haven't seen anyone who's admitted they're Eddie Out still posting like.
-
The main thing he probably needed to improve last night was whenever he was tackled. He was fouled a couple of times and got nothing from the ref, so for him to get tackled/dive and waste his time complaining to the ref made no sense.
-
I'd love to know how dark it gets.
-
Presumably you dreamed about us being the team that got him the sack?
-
We might get to see how good the next flavour of the month actually is. Ireola, Glasner, De Zerbi?
-
Yeah that'll be the main driver for the people who want to go to support Newcastle, but I don't think they'll really be the target audience.
-
It would be just as much of a faff, but the line would be there to decide where there was a miniscule goal-side overlap of bodies instead of now where it decides if there was a miniscule goal-side separation of bodies.
-
Some people look all of that straight in the eye and say that that's what they want. I'll never understand it.
-
If that was truly your view before VAR then that's fair enough, I'm just not convinced everyone's the same or that many wouldn't regret getting rid of it as soon as we get a taste of just how terrible it was.
-
Yeah it was mysterious as I thought he was our best player and definitely our best midfielder. With stuff like that you never know whether Eddie's doing it to save legs though. It's hard to track how loads are being managed on a player by player basis.
-
Wouldn't read too much into that tbh. It's how we wanted to play so it was horses for courses. If we're going to become a more possession-based side then Nick becomes more useful.

Woke up this mowwwnin', Newcastle went and wuuuuun.
