“There’s a strategy in place,” the senior figure says. “It’s not random. We will go for big players but the price has to make sense and it’s all about what our needs are. At no point do we have the intention of making a statement signing. The intention is to get the right player, the right character, the right position, the right fit.“

A timely reminder for those who keep banging on about statement signings…

“A case in point: Declan Rice. While Howe and Newcastle are full of admiration for the England midfielder, who is joining Arsenal from West Ham United, they are not yet at the stage where they can pay £100million-plus and a weekly wage of more than £200,000 for a single player, who wants “all the bells and whistles”. Their approach from day one has been to develop and grow, develop and grow.

The hope is that Tonali can be “as good as Rice, maybe better, but “we’d rather do it this way. We want to be No 1, but in the right way; smart, sustainable, different to everyone else. We’re not spending Manchester United, Manchester City or Arsenal money.”

Love this. Everything about us right now is professional and considered.

  2. He looks great - never heard of him.

Kinda shows that there is so much talent out there... and with Howes coaching, we could pick up some great talent rather than throw it all on one.

Still excited to see where we go. I'm pretty sure we will still have at least another 3 come in after Sandro!

They will play 3-2-2-3 that they finished season with, Same as City.

    Alison

    Konate Van Dijk Robertson

    Trent Fabinho

    Szoboszlai MacAllister

    Salah Gakpo Diaz

Loving all these 'new' formations teams are all adopting.  Inverted full-backs, the new false 9?

Isn't that the player version though? Fan version is embroidered isn't it?

The Promo versiom will be a Woven Heat Applied Patch,  the Fan version is usually an Embroidery.

The Promo has the venting and elevated fabric base too from what I can see.

    Pretty standard strategy.

  5. From someone working in the Industry, think they've done a good job.

Nice and refined, decent trims and the color matching and print is decent if a little generic :)

Quite like the tone of Green tbh, one for the younger fan!

No, some of us have been pretty consistent in ours views on this one.  Maddison isn’t crap - he’s a good footballer - but it isn’t bonkers to think he doesn’t fit with how we play.  Because he doesn’t.

This. I think Madison is a fantastic player.

But... going off the article about why EH wanted Tonali and emphasizing fluidity, I feel Madison is a little one-dimensional as a player. He's also pretty one-paced and not that mobile - in many ways, he's the anti-NUFC right now. That is just my view.

Hopefully, we go and buy an equally impressive player who may suit our style and shape a bit better. 40m is a good deal but still a lot for someone that doesn't naturally fit our formation.

  7. Great watch. Clear similarities with Rice! Super exciting signing. As much about attitude as talent - a born leader!

Some shite about a few of our players though... :)

  8. I'll be delighted if we get him, and to see how EH uses him.

Saying that, I've said from day one, I'm not sure he fits our style of play and his attitude still feels a little in question.

From the odd video I've seen of Szob, I'd say his physicality, attitude, and flexibility suit us better - I'd go there!

Be interesting to see how it all pans out. I trust those in charge to come out with the right decision.

I remember a few saying "not bothered about Botman", don't say the same about Maddison because if he signs you will look stupid. He's absolutely class.

I didn't know Botman at all when we signed him other than a few youtube posts.

I've watched Madison a fair bit. I agree he's class on the ball, but I don't think he suits our identity as either a pressing wide forward or compliments Bruno in the center. So personally, I'm not sure where he fits right now, but yes I'm happy to look stupid if he comes and succeeds, I just think there are better options out there...you know opinions!

We've had a bad summer if he's a starter in August.

Grafter, but limited as hell and predictable as fuck. Actually prefer Murphy and never thought Id ever say that.

  11. Definitely think we've passed the JWP level. He's really one-paced also.

Lavia yes. Personally, I'd go Ugarte/Thuram, DS (the Hungarian lad), Tierney, and a high-quality Young Striker and Centre Halve to come from the bench.

Madison would be a bonus if Eddie doesn't want the Hungarian. Guler would be canny too, my Turkish mate, raves about him.

Excited to see who we go for...

  12. Another one that's simply looking a bit tired. he's the target now it seems - it was Longstaff a few months back...(and that dated well)

He and Bruno are vital but they are fucking exhausted and probably playing at 70%.

    We need a squad. Simples.

  13. There are a few on here that need to chill the fuck out. You don't automatically win every game. There's a middle ground and it's often called a draw.

We were sloppy but it was always going to be a frantic, full-throttle game. Disappointing not to win, not much Trippier could do tbh, take the draw and move on.
