Freak injuries always happen like the one van Dijk had but I would be expecting more muscle injuries considering their play-style and the minutes some players are playing.

That said, knowledge about muscle recovery has to be much better now than it was when Kieron Dyer got one every two months. Also don’t like the blaming without any evidence but must admit it’s a bit suspicious.

A majority of their injuries were muscle injuries, IIRC.

A quick Google search gave this list:

    Curtis Jones - Eye

    Naby Keita - Foot

    Roberto Firmino - Hamstring

    James Milner - Hamstring

    Harvey Elliott - Ankle

    Sadio Mané- Rib

    Andrew Robertson - Hamstring

    Jordan Henderson – adductor

    Ozan Kabak – muscle

Maybe they didn’t have their drugs that day.

It’s a sport where absolutely millions are on the line, and every other sport has issues with it, but magically football doesn’t? I don’t see how that is feasible at all.

Testing is a complete joke in football it would be very easy to skate it. Other teams? Well no one in cycling did when Lance was doing it. Canelo is a drugs cheat in boxing and no one is calling it out. You’d have to prove it/and have a clean club yourself

But what about the injuries that both you and Sean have said Liverpool never get, which they got tons of last year?

Surely it’d be very easy to prove - a simple drugs test. Unless you think every single club in world football is at it? Why wouldn’t we for example raise a concern about it? Or is Chris Wood on a special brew?

Maybe but I think it’s incredibly naive that people don’t think it’s rife in football when it’s rife in every other sport.

Remember that Russian WC team? That’s the first time I thought I saw legit doping, and it ended up being doping. I feel the same way about these. The margins can’t be that high, they simply don’t tire. You can’t out diet age, it’s not possible.

It probably does occur in football, aye in isolated incidents. But there’s no way the whole of the Liverpool team are being doped like  I don’t think it’s anywhere near as rife as is being spoken about.

Your earlier point regarding injuries is a moot one when they had one of the worst injury lists last season. Do they only dope on alternate seasons?

Why on Earth would the teams not doping allow it to happen without causing a fuss about it?

I’m sure other clubs do too. No proof but it is highly irregular to maintain this level of intensity, especially players who are over 30/near 30. I’ve never seen it at elite level, they are in like 4 competitions, no Injuries, no drop offs in energy? It’s just not really rationally possible imo

Is it not just the advancements seen in sports science along with the stringent detail every inch of footballers lives are now monitored?

It’s not entirely unusual that James Milner can run faster now than Neil Ruddock could in 2002.

It’s not much different as to why world records tend to keep being broken as the years go on.

    Blame VAR.

    Happened pre-VAR.

It’s also much easier to keep your arms in a natural position than try and defend holding them behind your back.

The amount of penalties given for handball in those situations is actually so slim too.

  6. The weird trend of putting your arms behind your back when attempting to block a pass or shot.

It makes you less mobile and balanced and less likely to get a firm block on the ball.

My favourite line in that post:

”Who was the last current SAFC player who had a dig at the Mags?”

Oh aye, that’s never happened, has it? Quick… re-write history!

    Stewart Donald:

“Sunderland are much bigger than Newcastle down south so nobody down here talks or knows much about them…’

    Charlie Methven:

”for some reason I’ve always had an antipathy towards Newcastle.

“I mean that wasn’t a determining factor in this, but it does mean I’ve always had a slight soft spot for Sunderland because I’ve always found Newcastle to be a rather arrogant club.

“They seem to think that they’re special, and they don’t understand that every club is special.

“From an outsider’s perspective I feel that from the North East clubs, at Sunderland and Middlesbrough there’s much mutual appreciation from other clubs, but at Newcastle there’s little appreciation for or from other clubs.”

Didn't Fulham as a whole just dramatically drop off after the first couple of months last time? Put Mitro in a consistent top 10 team (without him) and he would perform at that level in the Prem

Yep. Like judging a striker based on their scoring return for Derby when they got their lowest points total.

Mitro is better than a lot of strikers currently playing in the PL regularly; Wood, Watkins, Adams, Weghorst, Maupay as examples.

He probably won’t be a CL winner, but he’s miles better than them. He’s had three seasons at PL level for two teams who got relegated, scoring 9, 11 and 3.

One poor season which is the total outlier compared to two decent seasons. What do people expect?

Not a single player outside of Tottenham, Liverpool and Man Utd has a goal return above 12 this season. It’s a complete myth that he should be hitting 10-15 goals every year at the level he has played at before in the PL.

Also nonsense that he has disciplinary issues too, the bloke hasn’t had a single red card since 2015/16.

    He’s good enough for a team 6th - 10th.

Anyone think football would improve if goal difference came after goals scored instead of the other way around when it comes to separating teams on the same amounts of points?

While GD certainly feels fairer (and probably my preference), it's hard to argue that teams wouldn't be going for it more if it came down to goals scored rather than GD.

I think it would improve. I’d be intrigued to know how many managers focus on GD.

Obviously Rafa did with his conservative style, but so often the top teams take the foot off the gas when they go 2 or 3 up when they could get 6 or 7.

GD is 10000x better than the head to head bollocks they use in Europe mind.

If a keeper thought 'fuck this I've had enough' and started blasting in own goals FIFA tantrum esque, would the result still stand.

He’d probably be subbed off after the second time he does it.

  11. Fucking thick cunt, what an absolute whopper.

There’s a small minority of idiots following every team, shouldn’t be a surprise, but it’s still infuriating when they do something like that.

Could we organise to replace the flowers and get the statue cleaned, at least?

I think there has to be an overhaul because of tenures this round (including Alex I think) so nominations will be interesting. They also need the right skills sets as well (accountant, legal etc).

I personally think to restore faith they only need to do three things 1 have the right skills sets 2. Engage better and more often (including communicating outputs like minutes, accounts or an annual report) 3. Be totally transparent.

It would probably be massively useful to have a strategy as well but got to walk before you run.

The problem with the elections is that it basically becomes a popularity contest. Anyone with a fairly large online presence is a sure thing.

You can almost guarantee, if they wanted to, Holly Blades and Adam P would almost certainly get it.

I’ve suggested before to the Trust but there needs to be some routes into it that aren’t elected in that way to ensure the right skills are also in place.

That’d almost be like an application CV process with a clear quality/skillset required, i.e accountancy, or audit background. I’d encourage the club to get involved as a bit of independence. I’m sure there is some fan engagement person with a few hours spare. Failing that, someone like Caulkin.

Also think there needs to be some more people with protected characteristics on the Board, at least one, maybe two seats there.

Currently an entirely white middle-class Board with one (almost tokenistic) female isn’t what is needed.

As you say, they also need a clear and defined strategy and goals to achieve. Measurable outcomes.

Lead roles, built in from the strategy, would be important too. As a fan, I’d know exactly who to contact about x, y and z.

It shouldn’t even be that much time and effort for people on the Board, if it was properly organised.

Again, I’ve offered loads of support/ideas before and it’s been ignored, before people say. None of these ideas should be new to them.

Don’t think he’d leave West Ham for us but I’d love for us to throw a cheeky bid in for Benrahma. He’d be a good option to ASM.

Would love us to go all out for Bowen.

We’d need to make some proper statement signings for players like him to join us though. No chance if West Ham get CL too.

  14. Am I the only one seeing contact there? He catches his calf doesn’t he?

Plus he’s been completely knocked off balance having to get out of the way of the challenge.

If Everton stay up man :anguish: pundits will be wanking over Lampard, despite the fact he's been shite and got them into the relegation battle in the first place.

They already are. Absolutely desperate for them to stay up for some weird reason.

Quoted the response for you from two pages back.

That is poor if they are receiving them. Do you get an automated reply to say received or anything?

Cant really comment on your last point. I received an email a week or two at least prior. Maybe issue getting a venue. Ended up in a pub with little privacy which would suggest so but just guessing.

Ta. But that doesn’t really answer anything and led to more questions than answers. Never known a donation to charity needing so much due diligence.

Again, strikes very amateurish and last minute. Simple things not organised at all. Surely with the connections at the club, they’d have a spare room for stuff like that?

    Good shout...

    Brentford (A)

    Liverpool (H)

    Leicester (A)

Could be stuck on 40 points

You could say the same about Brentford too like. Have to play Man Utd and then three relegation 6-pointers against Southampton, Everton and Leeds.

All of those teams seem to be playing one another. No idea who will go down at this stage.

Pretty sure I saw that answered in here from someone on the Trust if you jump back a page or two.

Never needed to contact NUST personally but would recommend emailing them. Not saying you have but I wouldn’t rely on a Twitter response from Greg if it is only he who can answer your questions. Maybe try one of the others.

Could they not answer your questions at the EGM held a few month ago?

    What was the response?

Emails are ignored, I’ve sent five over the course of a couple of years with no response.

Was that the AGM that nobody was invited to as they for some reason, decided against informing people about it until a few days before and as quietly as possible?
