  1. Isak is certainly a big flashy name that would make a statement. Part of me worries that we'd signing someone who had a good breakout season, then struggled to replicate that the season after.

    20/21 - 34 apps, 17 goals

    21/22 - 32 apps, 6 goals

I think you're underestimating the value of a striker who would virtually guarantee you 25 goals in the championship and a decent shot at promotion, 33 or not.

£10-12m is probably a bit rich but £6-8m should be realistic

There is a 0.001% chance of any team in the Championship stumping up that kind of money for Dwight Gayle. Like I said a few posts back, we will be lucky to get £1m.

We would have possibly got 10 million if we'd sold him in 2019 after his season at WBA.

Even then that would be madness. Especially when you consider it would only have been Championship sides interested in him. Finances in the Championship (any level below PL really) are totally fucked. Would've been lucky to get close to £5m back then. Now I'd snap off the hand of anyone who gets close to £1m.

  4. I honestly think Ritchie stays at this point, and I am fine with that. He is clearly a player fully bought into the Eddie Howe way, and can often be seen directing players (same way Trippier would) while warming up. He is handy to have on the bench when you consider he can come on in a final 10 minutes in a variety of positions, and will clearly give his absolute all.

I read in the Athletic a little while ago that the kind of central midfielder the club is after is going to be more of an athletic possession based type that uses short passes to recycle possession, and  maintain control of the game.

And so I don't think it will be Paqueta we look at bringing in, but rather someone more like that Ibrahim Sangare from PSV that we've also been linked with.

Actually, I just found the quote from the Athletic that I referred to ...

Really don't understand how Sangare is still at PSV. Very affordable release clause, can't remember the exact number off the top of my head, but its in the £20-£25m range.

Silent this week for sure :/

Kinda sad but hopefully its just because we are so much better now to keep things "secret".

The ship has certainly tightened since Ashworth came in. But that being said I do think we will be quiet for another week or two. Asses the squad we currently have, and see what develops the longer the window progresses. For example, if no one else comes in for Diaby in the coming couple weeks, & Leverkusen are more open to selling than they're currently letting on, £40m could suddenly seem much more reasonable to them a few weeks down the line than it does now.

Well they were set to spend 30m on Ekitike, so at the very least that’s what they’ll spend on an alternative.

I wouldn’t rule out us going back in for him.. the kid seems to be portraying an image like he’s happy to stay where he is etc but apart from spurious rumours about PSG, there’s no other serious offers for him at the moment.

The Ekitike deal was supposedly back loaded. Smaller amount upfront, with more paid over the duration of the contract. Also, don't think its a coincidence the Diaby talk picked back up once it became clear they were moving on from Ekitike.

  8. Diaby & Paqueta in this window would likely be an additional 100m on top of what we have already spent. They have made it clear that we're not going quite that big this Summer, unless they're about to announce some huge sponsorship deal. I personally think they'll spend another 40m on a wide forward (Diaby), then loan (with potential obligation to buy) a younger striker to understudy Wilson (a Broja type).

Almiron and Murphy are just pace and energy. Fraser's actually a half decent player. He seems genuinely two footed and can cover either wing too.

Assuming we end up bringing in a right sided winger/forward, Fraser is a fantastic bench option. He is actually even better on the left than he is the right. Tore Brentford apart in the away fixture last season.

  10. Could be complete coincidence and mean nothing, but anyone think the Diaby links feel similar to the way Botman went (in this window)? Started out with no one really giving us a chance, then gradually over a period of weeks it became more and more real, till it happened.

Feel like things are just starting to pick up with Diaby, and slowly it's beginning to feel more and more like it could happen.

  11. Gordon is exactly the type of player we all hate, nasty little rat-faced bastard... till we sign him, then everyone else hates him and he becomes our nasty little rat-faced bastard.

(That being said, give me Diaby any day of the week)

Genuinely can’t see this happening at all tbh, Everton don’t need to sell and I can’t see the lad himself trying to force a move.

Everton may not have the same desperate need to sell that hey had last week when the reporting period deadline was approaching, but make no mistake, they're far from out the woods yet.

Fuck off with loan deals. Unless they are paying his full wages they can get lost.

I'd be happy we contribute a chunk of the wages so long as there is an obligation to buy.

Hope Reuben calls in a tory favour and get's him banged off to cover St Mirren for the rest of his career tbh

If people could refrain from reminding me that Reuben is a massive Tory that would be great!

  15. I think another CM may end up being something we look at in Jan. Assuming we bring in a RW and striker (likely loan) during this window, and we are sitting in a decent league position without any massive issue needing addressing in Jan.

  16. I would be in dream world if we got Diaby. I just can't see it. Bailey's article says £40m could do it. That seems too low, realistically it would surely by closer to £50m.

Hudson-Odoi would also be a great signing.

  17. Feel like all this Tielemans talk is a good opportunity to have another reality check-in. Remember this time last year where the only Leicester midfielder we had any hope of landing was Hamza Choudhury, and even that was never going to happen. Now we're turning our noses up at Tielemans supposed lack of pace.

  18. The FFP stuff is real, and needs to be take seriously. The club definitely seem to be approaching it that way. I think you will see two more signings. One a RW/right sided forward at around £30-40m mark, then a loan striker, potentially with an option/obligation to buy.

By next summer the club will have a new front of shirt sponsor, and likely a who bunch of other new sponsorships. Especially if we have a strong league showing and get ourselves some form of European football, even it's it's the Conference League. Even if all that comes off I'd still say the budget goes up steadily, rather than shooting up. Like maybe next summer it's £120-150m
