  1. Prior to 1964, LeedsU couldn't have been regarded among the biggest 25 clubs in the country. Limited history, smallish crowds for such a large city, won nothing. Revie changed all that. Chelsea and ManC had richer histories but, like Leeds, their stories grew substantially from the mid-60s onward. Liverpool had been a bigger club than any of the aforementioned but, just like the others, their story grew from the mid-60s (monumentally in their case). Inviolably, and this has been the case since the mid-60s, to qualify as a 'big' club these days (by most people's reckoning) that club must be located in a big city. Forget that Burnley has a much richer history than Leeds, as well as a far greater local supporter base relative to population size, few would regard them as the bigger of the two. That's partly due to that 1965-74 decade, but it's also down to demographics/economics.
  2. Too close to call, but I agree that Everton will likely stay up if still in touch come the final day - and, sadly, I'm certain they will.
  3. Quite right. Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was a monumental and transformational owner for Leicester. Desperately sad. Doubtless they would not have fallen away like this if he was still alive.
  4. Aww. I rather like seeing Delia every other year; recalls alternate Christmas dinners with the in-laws.
  5. There are some clubs you dislike (eg. ManU and Chelsea) and there are others, the majority, you have no problem with. Two clubs I have a genuine fondness for are Ipswich and Argyle, so I'm chuffed that they both got promoted today.

    sunderland

To be fair, Sunderland have had a really good season. To he even fairer, I'd love to see Cov promoted via the playoffs - along with us qualifying for the CL, that would send prozac sales soaring on Weirdside.
  7. The first time was back in the Edwardian era when they were still called Newton Heath. It was a marketing ploy to try to emulate the much more popular and successful Uniteds of Sheffield and Newcastle. The reason for their huge (remote) fanbase today is as much to do with marketing as Busby/Ferguson. As far as I'm concerned, they are still and always will be Newton Heath.
  8. ManU fans are used to winning while we are used to losing, so we are bound to be more nervous about Liverpool. Realistically, there are now only 3 clubs fighting for the 2 remaining CL places. ManU are as likely as us to have a poor sequence of results that could let Liverpool in. Beat Everton this evening and our odds will be 95%.
  9. Nedum Onuoha is very capable and obviously inyelligent. The less said about the likes of RioF, Schmeichel, Merson, Collymore and Agbonlahor the better.
  10. I suggest getting a bag of Spuds. Slice and dice them, fry them to death and douse them with oodles of vinegar.
  11. ....and one of my favourite players of our greatest era - Ronald Orr. My grandad thought Albert Stubbins was the best striker we ever had.
  12. Blyth Spartans beaten 1-0 away to a strong Alfreton team and, unfortunately, Farsley won. They now need to win their final match, which is at home to midtable Herford. 3 points is likely to be enough to escape the drop as Kettering are in freefall and away at playoff hopefalls Kidderminster, while Farsley would be overhauled on goal difference if they lose at Spennymoor.
  13. Beat the Waddle n Gazza thieves and it's more likely than not.
  14. You could say the same for Liverpool, ManU, Arsenal at a certain point in time. All four aces just fell into Man City's hand all together and at the same time at an opportune time and in recent living memory. Glad they busted through the cabal's padlocked door and only hope we do too as well as a few other clubs that were contenders many decades ago.
  15. ....and if Farsley and Spartans both win a game, Kettering could well be relegated in their stead.
  16. One more win would do it. Next up, Alfreton away. Would do well to get a point there.
  17. ManU aren't yet assured of a CL place. I suspect they'll end up with 72-74 points but, who knows, perhaps some dodgy referee/VAR decisions will go against them? There must be at least 30 in the cupboard to achieve that 'balance themselves out' theory this season.
  18. Defeat Spurs and we won't finish lower than 5th and will simultaneously end their chances of finishing above us. We must win.
  19. Mike Williamson had done a great job. Heed could well finish in the top half of the table now. Brilliant turn around in results, but that and goal difference suggests Gateshead were always better than being in a relegation battle.

    Alexander Isak

To the traditional Carribbean tune Brown Girl In The Ring (although pethaps some could take offence): Isak in the box (tralalalala) Isak in the box (tralalalalala) Isak in the box (ttalalalala) And he shoots and he scores with aplomb (plomb plomb)!
  21. Both clubs deserve promotion back to the FL and, if they do, I'd anticipate one or other to get another promotion in 2023-24.
  22. I'll be sorry to see Leicester relegated, but it looks highly likely now. There are some similarities to our 2008-09 relegation season; plummeting like a stone, little in the way of character or leadership, too many players half-arsed, a club with little cohesion and direction that has failed to plan ahead. I'll be sorry to see them go largely because Leicester's 2016 PL success was truly beautiful; it gave real hope of ultimate success to all underdogs, a perennial yoyo club winning the greatest prize against all the odds.
  23. A dull draw with Kane picking up a torn hamstring would do for me.
