They'd have to sell him for about £60m to get that wouldn't they? With the various sell-on clauses?
-
Correct, but if they don't even try to take them to court then we'll know that FFP/PSR is going to be a tough nut to crack
-
As I say, we'll know by the end of the summer. If Everton get another deduction, get relegated and start next season in the Championship, we'll know it isn't quite as simple as "tie them up in court" or "bring a CAT case"

NUFC kits & merchandise - 2025/26 home kit leaked pg. 825
Keegans Export replied to Ryan's topic in Football
It's a fake, if you look at the stitching around the cuffs it's a slightly different pattern to the official Adidas kits -
Well there's a chance both Everton and Forest could be relegated as a result of those rules so if it's as easy as that I imagine we'll find out before the end of the summer
-
What they got away with was having to produce a business plan to show how they intend to not breach the PSR on the basis that they don't have to produce their accounts until the end of the month. They're still on the hook for PSR/FFP breaches.

Could be an issue if we qualify for Europe again, we are low on homegrown players as it is.
-
Similar to Livramento - we didn't need a RB last summer but if we think he's ultimately going to be our RB the long term then we might as well get him when he's available.
-
Whether we need a new keeper this summer or not, if we really like this guy and we can get him at a price we are happy with, we'll go for it.
-
There isn't enough room between Pilgrim St and John Dobson St to fit even a moderate size stadium. The buildings on the west side of the road are listed so you'd need another "brick by brick" strategy...
-
All they got away with was not having to produce a business plan to the EFL, that ruling didn't absolve them of any potential PSR breaches.

I think when we talk about selling Longstaff, Wilson, Targett etc we need to keep an eye on the balance of the squad in terms of homegrown players, especially if we manage to qualify for Europe again. That's a squad of 24, plus Hall and Miley who don't have to be registered. 14 are English Homegrown (we need 8?) but only three are Club Homegrown (we need four?) and one of those is Gillespie. That would leave us with a maximum squad size of either 23 or 24 for Europe, reduce it by one if we sell Longstaff. I'm not sure how the Club Homegrown rules work with the PL squad.

We don't have to pass FMV so far! Regardless, the point remains - some companies will value the sponsorship more than others. A Saudi company will probably value a link with NUFC more precisely because we are part-owned by PIF and are therefore in a position to be "the" Saudi PL club. That isn't the same for a potential sponsor from elsewhere who will value the deal at a lower amount. As @TheBrownBottle says, you're not comparing like-for-like in terms of potential outcomes for Company A versus Company B.

The Adidas deal is a good example. Because of our history with Adidas, a deal is worth more to them than it would to Nike, Umbro etc. because of the opportunity to cash in on all the retro stuff, historical goodwill and so on. Adidas would look at £20m/year as good value, whereas others might only see value at £10-15m. Does that mean we'd have to only take £15m? There is certain equipment I find very useful for my job, so I'd be willing to pay a decent wedge for it. You have no idea what the equipment is or what it's for, so you'd value it much lower. Which of those two is "fair market value"? The rule is a complete nonsense imo.

That's true, but it's fair to say that SJP is closer to the majority of food/drink/shops than the Arena site is. Although as I said above, it's really only 5-10 mins either way.
-
I think it's somewhere between the two. The current site is more central, as it's closer to the main footfall areas but it's not like the Arena site is on the moon. As has been mentioned it's maybe 5-10min further away from that central zone which isn't going to make a huge difference in terms of pre-match eating/drinking and getting to and from the ground. There's a big difference between that and (for example) building somewhere near Kingston Park.

Saves me having to find a parking space for the Bugatti. I'm all for it.
-
The Athletic article about Leicester suggested that if they get promoted they'd just get a fine, presumably because de-promoting them via a points deduction could be messy? Having said that, they'd still have to fall in line with the PLs rules when they came up so who knows

What "general increases" are going to bring in £50m?
-
Had his fair share of flaws but during my short time as a season ticket holder (2010/11 to 2014/15) he was the player I most looked forward to watching in the flesh.

The key paragraph (as far as NUFC is concerned). Having said that I've got nothing against City fighting that battle for us as long as they win...
-
We could absolutely do a lot with £180m rather than £105m but however much we can spend, Chelsea, Man Utd etc can spend more. The difference is (and will remain) they have so much more margin for error than we do. Man Utd can waste not far off £200m on Sancho & Antony and just keep going. Chelsea can spend a billion quid, miss out on the Champions League two seasons in a row then spend the summer chasing Osimhen. We sink £50m into Tonali and we're screwed, unable to supplement a crippled squad.
-
The argument about the allowable losses going up with "football inflation" is a fair one, but its still the same system in principle. Clubs like ourselves and Villa with the ambition and financial backing still won't be able to spend enough to catch up with the established clubs.
-
I vaguely remember Tim Krul picking up an injury and never really looking the same after he returned. Could be misremembering.
-
If we are a legitimate investment then we don't have to catch Man City for the value of the club to increase long-term. It'll be interesting to see what we do with the stadium. I can't see any way we can stay at SJP and renovate to the point that we have a world-class stadium.
