  1. If we're to include disallowed goals, I'd add Tiote's vs Man City To stick to the original premise of the thread - what about Shearer's shot after clever build-up vs Man Utd in 96 which almost broke the post? Happily, we did manage to find the net a few more times ...
  2. The FA, not the PL, is the recipient of the fines. They get distributed amongst the football pyramid in the same way as the rest of the FA's income does
  3. I've never met anyone who was at that game who isn't still thoroughly fucked off about it Mike was asking about almost goals that almost hit the net, so I reckon thread can still run on
  4. Rob Lee vs Brentford is the only answer an NUFC fan can give - those of us who were there are still pissed off 30 years later edit: in thinking about it, you were asking for nearly goals as in coming close ... still, happy for Rob Lee's fifty yard volley on his other foot to be in here
  5. He's not got a club for a reason, folks ...
  6. At least he's honest enough to caveat it with stating that he literally doesn't know anything about construction or planning. So he's just guessing.
  7. That's right - though we'll no doubt see it leaked by the 'winning' side in the press
  8. Always wondered what our owners would make of the shahada being replaced with a joke about getting pissed
  9. There will be a ruling on it, it isn't something which is able to rumble on. But it did seem to me that the scope was very narrow - it isn't like to be the 'magic bullet' that many of us would hope it is.
  10. I'm yet to see NUFC jump on board with any of this. It has already been pointed out elsewhere, but I'd be willing to bet that PIF aren't going to rock the boat whatsoever, though no doubt would be perfectly happy if the rules were changed. They've been owners for three years now, and have shown zero inclination to do anything whatsoever about any of this.
  11. Keep hearing this, then they all vote them through. The only way any of this changes is with the PL being subject to independent governance - which doesn’t look like it’s about to happen.
  12. Agreed, much harder to nail down - though the leaked emails aren’t a good look. If they are done on the serious charges, I’m perfectly happy to see titles stripped and relegation as a punishment.
  13. All the ruling is telling the PL is to ensure that their drafting is watertight - they haven’t been told by the Appeals Board that the rules in principle are a problem. The PL’s reaction is more likely to be to tighten, not relax, the rules.
  14. It’s that the rules as they existed were not ambiguous, and therefore Man City were in position where Mancini could receive payment outside of his regular manager contract. Man City has been charged with not giving full details of payments to the manager - but there is no ambiguity in the PL rules at the time about this - they didn’t require Man City to do what the charges state they needed to, therefore Man City are likely to be able to throw this charge out. Doesn’t mean that they won’t be done on the other - more serious - charges, of course.

    Marc Guehi

Our likely chance to get him was for a daft fee. No chance one of the Sky Six doesn’t offer him a shitload more money next summer when he’ll be available for a vastly reduced fee
  16. Bon Jovi should have sang ‘we’re a third of the way there’ if he wanted to be accurate Also, growing to a £3bn club would mean winning a lot of trophies - don’t see how we get there finishing 6th/7th a few times
  17. The Reubens would pretty much be the richest owners in the PL if they owned the club without PIF. They’re ridiculously wealthy
  18. Can’t see how a stadium expansion would class as that - Spurs’s new ground would. So if we moved, and SJP was turned into an extension of Leazes Park, I could see a CPO being given. To expand the East Stand? I can’t see it.
  19. It seems unlikely to me that a private business would get a CPO, no matter what the emotive appeal of the business.
  20. If the club was planning to expand the East Stand, why would it sit back and allow that land to be sold for £180k? They could have bought it themselves for the equivalent of a rounding error on PIF’s accounts.
  21. Haha yep, shocking isn't it? I didn't look at our two seasons in the second division as I don't count those. But we've always been shite starters post-KK
  22. That makes two of us - I had a check on NUFC after the game and put it in the match thread shortly after the game finished. We're normally such slow starters that I was curious!
  23. Yep, the whole 'he got the ball first' hasn't been the rule for donkeys years. They'll be telling us that bundling the goalkeeper into the net with the ball is alright if it was a fair charge
