It’s my favourite myth, this one. No-one ever wrote owt like this until the last decade or so. Sunderland didn’t exist beyond a scattering of fishing villages in the civil war era - Newcastle was a medieval county town and one of the biggest conurbations in the country. It’s a total myth put about by that lot to make it sound like some ancient rivalry, rather than a far more recent one based entirely on football. They’re absolute weirdos.

I yearn for the days when the concerns re the US being given a WC despite having little real interest in the sport revolved around them wanting to split the game in quarters, have adverts during the match and introducing bigger goals so that there would be higher-scoring games. It all seems so twee.

‘Touchy Vincent’ was a bit of a paedo, but not in a bad way, just boosting you over the climbing wall, making you run round the camp in your pants. It was old-style paedo-ing, before it got such a bad name.

Born in Newcastle, spend most of my life in Newcastle, been away to Sunderland half a dozen times, been to a dozen derbies at home, have lost too many sleepless night the night before, first time I realised how fucking horrible football can be was as a kid in the Milburn watching them beat us 2-0 in the playoffs, have had the piss taken by Mackems at work when we’ve lost, hate losing to them. This is the third biggest game of a seven day period.- 602 replies

I always enjoyed the wall of wallies who’d stand behind the police line and issue threats and insults. Same applies for the soft twats who do this at SJP in the return matches tbf. Go to the pub, have a few beers, sing a few songs. Stop standing open-gobbed watching people from down the road walking into a football ground you silly cunts. -
I thought he was pretty anonymous tbf. If Wissa is fit I’d be looking to have him on the bench for a bit.

Just on a financial basis. Howe has been let down in terms of day to day support, but he’s had funds to spend - until this summer, those funds have been really well used. Jury is still out on this summer’s, but it doesn’t look at the moment like they’ve all been well spent.

I do also think that defeat in the derby will make the grumbling a lot more audible.

Losing to the Mackems will bring about the standard criticism, but it isn’t even our biggest game coming in the next week. I don’t like losing to them down the road any less than anyone, and will get the standard anxiety the night before, but in context it doesn’t make or break our week never mind our season.

It’s crazy if we’d been operating within Ashley’s NUFC for five years. We’re not.

Yeah, the Wissa one is bad luck so far for me.

Before pile-on, I still think Howe is the right man for the job - but there is no way he isn’t accountable for signing players like. And if he isn’t, I trust he’ll receive zero credit for players who have been good.
