Baaaalls to that - a lower or non-league side at home, thanks. I’ll take beatable sides at home all the way to the SF.

The little lies they tell themselves are incredible. I know SAFC wouldn’t return 900 tickets at SJP because they couldn’t sell them - there would have to be a reason for it.

We’d get overrun in the middle every time. Zero chance Howe goes with a four man midfield.

Is it bigger than a bread bin?

Newcastle United 2-1 Burnley (06/12/25) | Post-Match From Pg. 27
TheBrownBottle replied to Yorkie's topic in Football
Another three points in the bag, all good for me, could do without us needlessly giving ourselves a coronary at the end of most matches mind. -
Ridiculous, they didn’t spend four years thinking about thinking about it. They’ll end up building something if they’re not careful.
-
Perhaps - but I don’t think local mumbling and grumbling would stop them it they were serious. If they wanted a 90k super stadium with state of the art commercial elements and the only place they could build it was in a big field near Killingworth they’d just do it even if the support whined for a bit. I can pretty guarantee folks would whine, the Ronny Gill would do pieces on it incessantly, and when it opened everyone would trundle up to the new Sven Adult Books Killingworth Astroarena. Newcastle and the NE generally doesn’t act on its moaning at any point - Ashley proved that.
-
Yep - we’re almost half a decade in now. It doesn’t take that long to actually make a decision on things like what to do with a stadium.
-
They’re talking about doing nothing re the stadium - new or refurb - by 2030. We’re solidly mid-table in terms of matchday revenues at the moment and by then there is a good chance others may have overtaken us who are below us at present. I’m not joining the dots tbh. I did like that he seems to think there’s effectively been left on the table and more that they could be doing commercially - so let’s see what happens there. But I think there’s room for improvement and it gives me a bit of confidence that he’s pointing it out. Ultimately ambition isn’t saying ‘we want to be no.1’. Fucking Ashley gave it the ‘we’re looking to win something, and I count CL qualification as winning something’ and then proceeded to do nowt to get us there.
-
I still find it odd that anyone voted ‘yes’ even anonymously. If there was a ‘sackometer’ on a 1-10 scale, Howe would be somewhere around a 3 or 4 for me - it should barely register as a conversation point. I’m sure plenty would have him on 1 and shout at anyone who dared place it higher, mind.
-
Yes, I know he did. Which is why I wrote ‘averaging’. He was correctly criticised for it, as he was for getting us relegated twice. The criticism was because it was well short of what even a semi-competent owner with no funds should’ve been able to build at the club.
-
I didn’t say we had finished there - I said folks are being called ‘spoiled’ for criticising our current PL standing. I fully expect Howe to get us into the top half this season - he’s a good manager.
-
To me it’s about actually doing something to make it happen and not just saying it. No issue at all with stating ambitions and not achieving them - but stating them and doing nowt to get there is a problem. There seems to be a tendency compare the current ownership to Ashley, and then to forget what Ashley was being criticised for. Ashely shrank commercial revenue - it wouldn’t take genius to increase it. Ashley was criticised for having the club averaging lower midtable finishes - now we’re ’spoiled’ for thinking that isn’t good enough.
-
They did, but he was grabbed outside the ceremonial hall by ICE agents, tasered and spit-bagged, and thrown out of the country on trumped-up charges.

I think I understand the logic - it’s Joelinton who needed competition / replacement in midfield. It’s the weakest point of the midfield three. So far for various reasons the lad hasn’t been given the chance to start - Howe will have his reasons. Too early to write the lad off, but it does make me question the logic of paying a ‘PL premium’ if the lad isn’t going to be chucked straight in (in fact it’s a waste of money).

The last two WCs were in Russia and Qatar, the 2034 one is in Saudi Arabia, FIFA doing a tribute to US president with authoritarian tendencies shouldn’t come as any kind of surprise. There’s more members of FIFA than the UN, and they’re all there with the express goal of lining their own pockets as much as possible. Every horrific and barbarous govt on the planet pretty much is in there.
