mackems vs. Newcastle United: 14/12/25 @ 14:00 (Sky Sports)

I’ve never met anyone who enjoys it tbf - it’s only fun at FT when you’ve won. The build-up is absolutely awful. -
Fucking hell, Marcelino was on £20k here back in 1999, that’s an absolutely bonkers statement
-
Players usually back their own talent - I’d imagine that if Livramento went to Man City it is because he’d expect to be good enough to hold a place in the team. They’re light years ahead of us, he’d be on double money (at least) and more or less guaranteed winning big trophies with a move there (if it happens). We’re not at their level; we’re not even close. I also wouldn’t view any of the current squad as being here for the ‘long haul’ - to grow you need to sell regularly and sell well.
-
Agreed - there’s fuck all chance Howe puts up with his attitude. There’s a reason he signed for us and not Barcelona; and Alan Pardew had fuck all to do with that. For all the Messi comparisons, the closest I’ve seen in B&W is Beardsley. HBA was nothing like Messi.
-
I don’t think Isak’s antics are the reason for his current form. He got the move and the money he wanted - the players are far more likely to take that view. Kick up a stink and you’ll get a move to a bigger club on more money - if Isak flops, that’s on him.

I think they’re good points, but I still feel that they’ll play right into our hands - we can’t break a ‘low block’ to save our lives. If they were sensible and sat off they’d have a real chance of beating us. I reckon they’ll get over-excited and go for us - and I hope they do. -
Haha that tells you how long it’s been
-
They’re all for sale for a price - PSR dictates that. I’m not worried about selling players - at least I know any money brought in will be spent. I wouldn’t get overly attached to any player at the club.

I still think what will help us here is tha Sunderland can’t do the standard midtable / bottom half ‘low block’ against us. The heathen hordes will gan crackers. They’ll come at us - which is exactly what we want. -

Just have to outlast the standard 20 mins of bluster and piss and vinegar. We’ve still got far, far better players than these daft cunts. It is worth remembering, we’ve had a poor start, they’ve had an amazing one - and if we win we leapfrog them. Keep it in context - we’ve got a much better side than these.- 602 replies

Liam O’Brien, Andy O’Brien … edit: is there still a massive framed photo of this up in The Adelphi? Haven’t been in there for years

I don’t want to sell them either, but if we do I’d be amazed if we get £100m for Tonali. Enzo wasn’t worth that fee either. I don’t think Tonali has shown anything like the consistency to command that sort of fee. Our midfield is an ongoing issue, yet we always think they’re worth megabucks. Isak’s fee tells me they’re not. Livramento is more arguable of course - and his passport will add about 20% to his value.
-
I haven’t listened to it in yonks, but I’d rather an NUFC podcast where if Trump or Tate somehow came up they’re called out as the racist, misogynistic, fascistic (alleged) rapists that they are. No issue with calling a cunt a cunt. The issue with TF was MM selling out to a middle class Tory tosspot - the absolute antithesis of what fanzine culture was meant to be. Alex Hurst writing pieces in the FT to tell the world what a happy little Cameron supporter he was - and MM still having the temerity to describe TF as ‘left-leaning’ - was the end for me.

Jesus wept that’s fucking insane

I desperately want an FA Cup run - it feels like forever since the last one. And it really feels like we’ve assembled a perfect ‘cup team’ - we’re a good (not great side) who can beat pretty much anyone when we’re on song; we’ve won one before now; the manager also has the feel of being a really good cup manager in terms of doing it on big occasions. I hope we field the strongest side possible and have a proper go - I’d happily see us rest players for the league games either side of this. If I see us win the FA Cup I’d die a ridiculously happy man - it’s the competition our history hangs on.
-
I can see both going; don’t think we’d get anything like those numbers for them. Tonali isn’t a £100m midfielder - and Livramento’s passport will inflate his fee a bit, but no-one is paying that for a RB with potential but some apparent weaknesses.
-
I can remember Gascoigne and Carroll pushing for moves elsewhere - it’s not a guarantee of ‘loyalty’. Nor should it be - we likely release dozens of local kids every season. It’s a two-way door.
-
Would be far less of an issue if they would pay the market rate - instead, PIF negotiate like Peter Ridsdale on crack. I can see I now: PIF: ‘We’ll give you £200m for Salah, not a penny less’ Liverpool: *speechless* PIF: ‘alright, £250m then.’

The Liverpool Derby doesn’t come close in terms of sentiment, even if the two clubs involved are bigger / more successful. The Manchester derby always felt lop-sided, given that Man U and Liverpool reserve their real ire for each other. In terms of general venomous nastiness, there’s little in the PL to compare at the moment.
-
That’s another one they like to put about - because they’re lunatics. They claim on one hand that there was a trade rivalry, and on the other that they couldn’t trade because those dastardly Newcastle merchants put the stop on it. The Wear was primarily concerned with the salt trade, not coal, at the time. Merchants in Sunderland had the same rights as those in Newcastle from the C12th - and Durham was broken off from Northumberland a century later. Merchants in Newcastle didn’t have the means of blocking trade in another county - or palatinate as Durham was.
-
Derby vs Leeds is a bigger game - I’m more dubious about Liverpool vs Barnsley. Who would want to sit down and watch that?
-
Copilot will just aggregate whatever it finds on the internet - most of which will be Mackems on forums making these outlandish claims And exactly right - even if there was a civil war rivalry (zero evidence that there was), then what kept it going for several centuries? And why wasn’t it recorded? There’s a lot of folks out there claiming to know what people thought without a shred of evidence to support it.
