  1. Greggs’ and its sandwich-based mix-ups are precisely why the UK has no first amendment. See also: queue-jumping; cyclists during rush hour; grocer’s apostrophes
  2. True, which can absolutely happen with unvetted stories - and no news outlet is perfect; but the BBC does have exacting editorial standards re its news output (and I agree re coverage of Israel/Palestine particularly the terms used in relation to either side - though I wouldn’t expect the Beeb to put out the stuff I’ve seen shared on social media etc).
  3. I was once given a cheese and onion sandwich in Greggs when asking for a cheese one. I could’ve happily went on a shooting spree after biting into it. Fucking hate onions, me
  4. It cripples us, unless we can find another couple of hundred million per year quickly
  5. Got you It’s a daft story, and does how those sort of narratives can become ‘history’ (tbf, my understanding from reading various Great War histories was always that Princip’s opportunity was the result of the car turning down the wrong street and it’s also where Princip happened to be following the earlier attempted assassination attempt. No mention of sandwiches from memory - though whether he was eating one or not hardly seems like the biggest historical slip-up).
  6. I haven’t a clue on the truth of the Gordon story tbh. I’m open to either story being true.
  7. Either the BBC was formed a decade before it actually was and reported this as news, or you’re referring to a story on the website which wasn’t a news story - and therefore not relevant.
  8. Perhaps, but even with that they’re not complex nor or they complicated builds - the only complex issue is usually the specialised equipment, which from our perspective wouldn’t be an issue (ie the cost). Pre-planning should be months, not years. The club’s shit facilities were not a secret - the Mackems had better facilities than us (including our academy being graded lower).
  9. Only saying what they were saying on there - I didn’t agree with all of it. Not sure it makes people cretins either, mind. Soft power isn’t much use as a silent partner. That’s the entire point of it - being front and centre and getting the credit for the success of the ‘sportswashing’ vehicle. And as someone who is currently a senior member of a team building a civil engineering project worth more than £1bn - and as someone who has also been a key member of the project team on a new build training facility for a professional football team in the UK - I’ll happily put on my clown shoes and state that yes, pre-planning on large scale projects does take time, so it is understandable re the stadium. The training ground? No, that is not a capital project requiring vast amounts of planning.
  10. 100% Though I'm still incredulous that we got 35m for Anderson, regardless of circumstances
  11. True, but ultimately you're still chasing the shortfall. And you're right re new rules of course
  12. Lack of communication, PIF as absentee owners (and potential waning interest), slowness in terms of commercials, training ground and stadium, that we were close to the brink on PSR and what that possibly says about the competence of some of those charged with running the club. I didn't agree with everything that they said, but they weren't exactly nonsensical ravings or owt. I've no idea re PIF's interest (no-one does - they don't actually say anything), but they suggested it showed that they may have had enough. Personally, it simply ties back to what I've always thought - this is a passive investment and always was from day one. I don't think this means PIF are looking to offload - what I could hear was the sound of people confused that this isn't what we 'signed up for', which is fair enough, but there's no evidence to suggest that PIF are looking to offload us.
  13. We would have needed to sell him after 30th June for that to be the case
  14. Hadn't listened to the Tory party football podcast in a long time, but had a listen based on this while walking the dogs. A lot of what they raised are perfectly valid concerns in fairness
  15. So we were expecting to double our commercial revenue in June but the PL blocked it? Yeah, not buying that at all tbh. Our shirt sponsorship (the biggest sponsor we could have) is 25m, the kit deal is worth up to 40m, and Minteh and Anderson brought in about those numbers combined. What exactly were we sponsoring to bring in that kind of money?
  16. My granddad used to read Newcastle’s spreadsheets one week, then read Sunderland’s the week after You used to be able to do that in them days
  17. He made defensive subs at HT in ET. We have no attacking game plan, that’s true, but his genius isn’t only felt in attack. And if we have no attacking game plan, this would be the consequence in any case
  18. He’s instructed them to play like this. Unfuckingreal
  19. Unless Portugal appoint Southgate you’ll be fine
  20. Much easier to say when you don’t miss sitters in big games, tbf
  21. I don’t have to listen to him and know he’s a massive cunt. I’ve had an agenda since the LC QF in 1996 and I’m not letting that die
  22. Missed two sitters in the last 15 mins of the match
  23. Attention-seeking wankers. Love that the signs are in English, not Portuguese, to ensure that the TV viewers understand.
