Question - I thought the idea was to rank the players generally in a wider context, not on their ranking within the squad? It does look like folks are ranking Joelinton based on his worth to us, not on who he is generally
-
B at worst suggests A when good. Not sure he’s world class when good
-
I missed Lascelles, who is an E. Joelinton is a solid C for me. No chance he’s one of the best in either the LW or CM positions in the league. He isn’t our best LW, and isn’t one of our best midfielders, for starters. Still love the lad and he is an asset.

1990/91 remains the worst season in my memory banks. Yes, we were even more shite the year after, but that did have the KK ending. Being midtable in Division Two is as grim as it gets. I wasn’t around for the humdrum horrors of 78-82.

He made some weird comments about how buff Eddie was looking, and asked if he’d been working out

‘They haven’t won owt yet. And they better not’ Except in Spanish

The scousers are quite odd about it all. It’s from a famous American musical, it’s hardly a local folk tune.

I think that’s from the FA Cup match at Anfield in ‘84

Bring back Archibald Leitch - all is forgiven

Also, singing it at 120bpm like you’re in New Monkey or Colosseum should result your parents being imprisoned. You are their failure.

I reckon anyone caught singing the wrong words to Blaydon Races should be given an automatic one match stadium ban (actually, three matches if they’re from Tyneside). Second offence lifetime ban, nee comebacks. They’d learn quickly

Their support tends to preface it based on ‘biggest one club city’ type crack. But it’s not a one club city - it’s a two sport city. Swathes of them prefer rugby league.

The irony of a league containing Real Madrid whining about state-financed football clubs …

I didn’t mean it as an attack on Howe - it is a curio more than anything. I do think it is more suggestive that he did an incredible job in 21/22, and he’s doing a good job this season.
-
Another stat re form - we have now played as many games in the PL this season as we did under Howe in 21/22 - when he saved us from relegation. Results as follows: 21/22 - P27 W13 D5 L9 24/25 - P27 W13 D5 L9 He was doing equally well (as in exactly the same results) when the squad was made up almost entirely of relegation candidates - and we’ve spent a bob or two in the meantime.
-
I think we’ve played ok, I don’t think losing away to Liverpool is one to pin on the manager tbh. A proper refresh in the summer looks vital tbh - there’s too many players in the squad past their sell by date.
-
I don’t think there was an issue with the system tbf - I think Howe probably made the right call. It’s Anfield, not sure I’d expect much more tbh. Sloppy play has cost us more than any tactical call (though I do think Howe can be a bit too reactive with subs).
-
It’s not so much the lack of pace as the slowness on the ball which is becoming an issue. He was never the quickest - but he’s taken up the unnerving habit of dawdling on the ball before languidly playing a simple pass, allowing the opposition to move back into position.
-
He’s at fault for the first but it’s really sloppy play which costs us on both goals. Both were soft
-
Quadruple sub! Forgot that was even allowed

Ridiculously lackadaisical pass by Tonali that
