  1. I can remember a Rogan Taylor article in Total Football many years ago (late ‘90s) which argued that big football clubs should look to manufacture their own kit, as it would be far more profitable for them. Newcastle was who he cited.
  2. Yeah, it’s easy to forget (or at least I did - that probably says more about me!) that this was the case. Seems incredible that the lad did because when he plays he just oozes cold confidence in front of goal
  3. As much as I’m entertained by the soap opera nature of NUFC YouTube, I don’t watch it other than what’s posted here. I think I remember they had a tiff - what happened exactly?
  4. It would no doubt. Besides, most of my team from the Indian sub-continent would probably be thinking ‘why is that daft cunt doing an impression of a Welshman?’
  5. I do it daily. I don’t mirror to that extent, thankfully, as it would just be racist.
  6. My favourite part of the whole saga was Lothar Mattaus of all people going on about Trippier’s age - beautifully ironic, given how old Mattaus was when he last played for Bayern. I know Mattaus was a far better player, but still …
  7. We always were until latter-day Ashley. We’ve been on the Deloitte Rich List more times than all but 12 clubs despite that fucker. A few more times than Man City.
  8. ‘For you Tommy, ze var ist over’
  9. We’re miles away at present. It’s why I couldn’t get over excited about how improved we were doing commercially - a team of first year marketing students could have increased Ashley’s commercials at NUFC. Given the disparity in incomes between the NE and the rest of the country (particularly London), I don’t think we’re getting to where we want to go at SJP. We would need a 70k ground with shitloads of corporate to compete long term, plus commercials on everything.
  10. It would be zero sum, as there would be £4m incoming then £4m outgoing, so it would be cost neutral for any sell-on clause. Almiron’s original fee is amortised fully, so anything we’re not paying Atlanta goes straight into the income column. Selling Almiron would likely help fund a big signing in this window - if they want to do that.
  11. I’m not a great sentimentalist when it comes to players being transferred in and out - it’s the nature of the game. I’m aware that I do have a Pedro Corinthian figure as my avatar mind I’m happy to retain good players, but it should be the manager’s choice. As long as any sale is done in the manager’s judgement for the best of the club then I’ve no issue - no player is ‘unsellable’ for me
  12. Yes, Almiron’s fee has been fully amortised. It’s as if he’s an academy product.
  13. Honestly, I didn’t see anyone happy at the prospect of him going
  14. I doubt Barton understands why Rule, Britannia! is a ‘bit iffy’, for starters he’d have to understand that the song is a commandment from God rather than a patriotic ditty. It’s an exhortation to literally rule the seas, an ode to imperial ambition. And it isn’t ’immigrants and refugees’ that have an issue with it. I have an issue with it, and so do plenty of other ‘native’ Brits. Can’t copy and paste that from the ‘online dictionary of clever sounding quotes’ though. Requires actual knowledge, something Barton lacks
  15. The Vermont’s manager been talking again I see
  16. Played well vs PSG, was poor vs Milan, didn’t look any better than Longstaff when he came on vs Dortmund, and that was it. Not sure he would have been the difference between qualifying or not.
  17. I thought he wasn’t particularly great after the Villa came tbh - don’t think I’m misremembering. Honestly didn’t think he added more than Longstaff in the games he played. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a much higher ‘ceiling’ than Longstaff, of course. But he looked a long way from great when I watched him.
  18. Good, hopefully Trippier is staying for the duration. I can’t imagine anyone wanted him gone.
  19. Hope so. I’m not confident re that.
  20. I can see I wasn’t clear, apologies - it doesn’t matter what we pay Atlanta; whatever fee we retain is 100% profit for FFP.
  21. Doesn’t matter at all if Atlanta has a sell-on clause or a % of the sale. The fee is what counts for FFP. I doubt the owners are arsed about paying Atlanta
  22. He won’t be worth what we paid when he returns
  23. In a heartbeat. No-one would though.
  24. That’s true. Though I suspect owld ‘N Joy’ was serious until PSG stepped in
  25. That’s fair enough like. I wouldn’t sell at this point either.
