  1. The bit that I scratch my head about is when this sentimentality re SJP started in the fan base. Because it wasn’t there in 1996/97 - the support was pretty unified in wanting a move for the betterment of the club. The problem is that the claims that we’d be able to compete long-term staying where we are, are not then followed-up with anything tangible. And the drawbacks of the move aren’t clear either - if the move was to Castle Leazes, what drawbacks are there?
  2. If the aim is the odd season of unsustainable success then you’re right - but Forest will not maintain their current position.
  3. The problem is that the graph is misleading - a stadium’a revenue isn’t simply matchday revenue. The likes of Arsenal and Spurs have significant proportions of their commercial income linked to the stadium (sponsorship, corporate, merchandise). These revenues are not included in ‘matchday revenue’.
  4. There’s no rational reason for supporters to know this stuff - the media really should, and it shows how poorly served the sport is by the press (of which it has lots of people living off the back of it). They continue to link us to players and never explain properly to supporters what the position is. I wonder if they should start mentioning this stuff whenever a player signs a new deal, which might help. For example, when Joelinton signed a new deal last season, it would have reduced his PSR amortised transfer fee book value from c.£8m to £2m per season - which is a canny reduction in the burden. Those supporters who wanted to know would quickly get the hang of it.
  5. Just to add to 80’s excellent summation and to point out how crackers it gets, if you’ve bought a player for a fee they will always have an amortised book value. So if you take Lascelles who was signed 11 years ago for about £3.5m (from memory we paid £7m for him and Darlow), his fee will have been further divided or amortised with each new contract. So Lascelles’ transfer from more than a decade ago will still have a PSR burden (though at this point it will be negligible - and amortisation across a new contract is still capped at five years, minus the ‘book value’ already deducted in the previous contract period). This is why academy products are so valuable from a selling perspective, and why buying at high fees is so risky - the player will always have a book value as long as they’re at the club.
  6. He did his job and helped us stay up. With Isak and a fit Wilson he was absolutely surplus to requirements, and PSR means we couldn’t leave him as third choice. Always appeared to be a good pro, and a decent bloke, so good luck to him - but I don’t look enviously Forest’s way.
  7. Gateshead really should move into a proper football ground at some point
  8. Pretty much - another boyhood Evertonian
  9. Boyhood Evertonian. It was the least successful Liverpool side of the past 60 years he was a part of, so I can understand if there’s not a huge amount of sentimental feelings towards him.
  10. In all honesty the league is so tight that feels like a better result - Bournemouth are more likely to fall away of course
  11. Free header in the six yard box, Sels looking exactly as he did for us there
  12. I still think we’re more likely to catch Forest than Liverpool, so as miserly as it seems I’m not happy that they’re winning.
  13. Likewise. This does have echoes of when Leicester won it - all of the Sky Six were in a ‘transition’ season (ie were shite)
  14. There’s no way the lad was valued at that at the time.
  15. It’s really annoying when clubs do dodgy things to get around PSR. Apropos of nothing, Elliot Anderson was definitely worth £35m and that Greek goalie was definitely worth £20m. Definitely.
  16. Must be good having two young players that you hope might play for England one day. We’ll just have to put up with the three young players who are now England regulars. Ah well.
  17. Never felt like a straightforward place to go, but it’s still a plum tie and I fully expect us to be in the hat in the 5th round
  18. Didn’t look right at all vs Bromley, this isn’t a surprise but it’s a pisser. I like what the lad offers, I love his directness. Shouldn’t impact it - he’s only out for a month, and Joelinton can certainly play LW if Gordon is out
  19. There’s always an English premium, but regardless Rice is a superb midfielder and we’ve seen that when he played against us in the past for West Ham and for Arsenal. Bruno and Tonali are clearly excellent midfielders too. Push comes to shove I think Rice is just about the best player of the three, but there’s not much in it.
  20. It’s all speculation, but there isn’t any other reason I can think of that the club would pay more money for the remaining six months of a player’s contract unless they said they were off. Clubs in Europe have been able to do this for nearly two decades now, but there seems to be a collective agreement not to take players under these circumstances (because they’re all vulnerable to it - and of course it impacts selling and buying clubs).
  21. Haha yeah, MOTD commentators would get far more moved by ‘cheating’ (ie going down easily) than common assault 😁
