I agree it is simpler that way - but the law hasn’t changed at all - IFAB is absolutely clear on this, and Italy doesn’t get to make its own rules up to make life easier. The rest of FIFA are the fifth member of IFAB, and UEFA competitions are governed by the laws set by IFAB. The laws of the game (and their interpretation) are meant to be universal, but in practice they’re not. The handball interpretation as it seems to be applied on the continent is ludicrous - universally it is meant to be if the hand / arm is in an ‘unnatural’ position and not the result of the player’s body moving fairly as a normal aspect of play. Having your arm down when sliding across the turf is about as ‘natural’ as it gets - some of the referees don’t appear to have ever played football in their lives. And I’m not someone who tends to moan about referees and refereeing (I moan about plenty of other things). That should never have been a penalty, and I’d have been spitting blood if it was against us.
