Anderson and Minteh for Elanga?! How much do we value him at?

I think the desperation is more to do with with timing regarding FFP, there are likely to be others we would prefer to get rid of before Anderson if we had time on our side to do it.

This answers the question I asked the other day, that if we can demonstrate a pre agreement for one of our players with a Saudi club that goes through when their transfer window opens then would we receive a points deduction. This reads that we are unlikely to.

Elanga is a decent player but if he is being bought as our main RW signing then that is disappointing.

I am fully on board with gambling on success at the beginning of the season, you do need an exit strategy if that gamble doesn’t pay off though.

I don’t know if he would be sold for £40 million after this month but if he was then the club would be doing it due to believing it is a good price and us having a plan, rather than out of necessity. Olise and Williams have buy out clauses so they would be leaving below their true value, a better comparison would be Kudus before coming to West Ham and Madueke to Chelsea that someone used as a comparison yesterday, similar profiles before coming to the Premier League.

If the club are facing breaching FFP and Minteh is the player attracting interest then he has to be sold. However, it is understandable people not being happy about it. We are not selling him because we don’t think he has ability, we are selling him because the club has been poorly managed financially and we could be looking at a points deduction if we don’t.

Gordon isn’t being pigeon holed, his strongest position is clearly on the left as it allows him to cut in on his right and create space for the left back overlap. That doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of playing on the right but many players are capable of playing in multiple positions, they are not pigeon holed by playing in their best position though. I thought Gordon was originally bought to replace ASM, as Joelinton was playing well out there and had formed a good partnership with Willock as the left sided midfielder, so I was surprised when we were prepared to invest more in the left side with Barnes whilst maintaining Almiron and Murphy down the right. Hopefully that side gets rectified this summer.

I think it would be different with Anderson, as he has had 2 years with the first team making 50 appearances, what with Joelinton and Willock being ahead of him.

I think the feeling was we would sign young players, if they didn’t look like they had the ability to make the grade then they would be sold but if they did then they would be integrated in to the first team, which is similar to what Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City do. When we end up with better players than Almiron and Murphy down the right then flipping a highly rated youngster in that position becomes more palatable.

Ignoring that 2 of those goals were penalties, you can’t ignore the near 20 league games before that where he didn’t score. It is 2 non-penalty goals in his last 25 league appearances.

Presumably one where Wilson also stays, as DCL isn’t as good as him.
