I think some players would accept less to come here than they would Chelsea, as long as they felt they were one of the best paid players in the team relative to their ability. They might come here for £150k knowing they will be one of the best paid in the squad but wouldn’t accept £150k at Chelsea where they might not even be in the top 10 best paid.

I wouldn’t have any issue with the club bringing Minteh back as first choice next season, they would only do it if they thought he was good enough.

We have 3 defenders in Trippier, Burn and Schar who are in the final year of their contract and it becomes difficult to balance with financial fair play and needing replacements eventually. I can see Burn moving on in the next 12 months, possibly signing a new contract before moving on to Saudi next summer for a couple of years to pad out his pension.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we moved to sign Tariq Lamptey, he’s 23 and hasn't fulfilled his potential at Brighton so is the sort of player Howe can add value to. He is also going in to the last year of his contract so a deal is there to be done. That is if we still intend on going with an attack minded right back.

I would rather sign Iheanacho on a short term deal to see if Howe can get him back on track than commit £20 million on DCL. I am sure if we could invest freely then he wouldn’t be someone we would consider. However, that isn’t the case and with Tosin going to Chelsea then we might need to spend on another centre back too. I like Gordon up top if Isak is out, his movement in the box when he isn’t in possession is high level, arguably better than Isak in that department.

Not really, they are tested in that they are constantly under fire but everything becomes haphazard compared to the structure you want to develop them playing, as well as the impact on the mental side of it where you might pull off some decent saves on a regular basis, but you have absolutely no realistic chance of being successful.

You can’t nurture a young goalkeeper in a team that is relegation fodder.
