His work rate was good but his touch and awareness have been off for a few games now I think.

I agree with this, he is getting game time this season due to the number of injuries we have rather than there being a plan in place to develop him in to a first team regular. He has took that chance and been excellent in the majority of games which is a credit to how good he is, certainly above the level of Swansea and Blackburn.

I like the energy he brings to midfield when he has games like that but he needs to find some consistency to his game, as the contrast between his performance last night compared to a week ago against Man City are polar opposites. I don’t really see the comparison with Gordon and his first half a season here because of this, that isn’t saying Tonali doesn’t need time or he is the finished article as I’m sure there is more to come and there are definitely parts of his game for him to improve on. However, unlike Gordon he has put in some excellent performances for us already but his consistency is what is all over the place. Hopefully he can find that once he gets used to the pace of the league.

They agreed not to even discuss it and kept it off the agenda of the AGM. I read that there was moaning around the semi automated part meaning it was still open to human error; however the human interference would be to decide if the person offside was interfering with play.

I was thinking more us from January 2022 until the end of the year, it was a great run but once we we built up enough wins so that relegation wasn’t a real concern then it was a free hit, so we could go out and enjoy the games with no pressure at all. When you are having to hold on to something at the end of the season is when it really gets difficult, we seen that with ourselves and Arsenal that mentality it is tough.

Villa would get more attention for what they are doing in the wider footballing community if Brighton were not seen as being more impressive, when considering budget, the size of the club and being a selling club. What they need to do is prove they can do it over a whole season which is difficult both physically and mentally when the pressure is on.

There are a number of clubs that have suffered with injuries already this season, including ourselves and Chelsea. There is an element of having to get on with it and as you say they teams you are putting out should be able to break down the opposition you are against; however if Rashford isn’t creating something from nothing then that is where you seem to struggle. When I was looking at the players who have been injured for you this season I’m not seeing anyone who is a stand out that would completely change your attack, instead cogs in the machine in a similar way to Willock, Joelinton and Barnes are for us.

Transfermarkt say they have six players injured, including Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo in that. Edit - The other four being Martínez, Shaw, Wan Bissaka and Malacia.
-
Have they a raft of injuries? Their issue seems to be breaking teams down (only scored more than one league goal in a game once this season) and relied on Rashford to carry their attack last season, if he isn’t on form they struggle yet their injuries are at the back.

Man Utd need to do something quickly or they risk getting cut adrift from the Champions League contenders, although a season out of the Champions League is hardly catastrophic for them if they don’t stick with ETH.

Obama making himself as small as possible for the goal.

Also worth adding that Premier League clubs had the opportunity to have the same semi automated offside technology that was used in the World Cup, yet turned this down for people drawing lines on a screen.
-
Surprised he didn’t switch Burn so we had a left sided centre back to partner Schar, Then going with either Targett or Hall at left back.

Mark Douglas throwing our name in the mix for Ivan Toney. https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/ivan-toney-transfer-brentford-arsenal-chelsea-interest-striker-2653571?

Maybe we should have a round of applause every game in the 70th minute to mark the time he usually comes off the bench to show our support?
-
Amazing result considering the team, no reason why we can’t win this.
-
Pep panicking.

Fucking hell?

I’m all for playing a weakened team in the cup but it also has to take in to account the opposition, if we could beat Man City here then we have a decent shot of winning the whole thing. I don’t see the logic in playing a near full strength defence against Sheffield United and likely Burnley yet put out Targett, Lascelles and Dummett against Man City. Hopefully we win but I’m less confident after seeing that line up.

He has been given a long overdue opportunity albeit through injury and is showing what he can do, hopefully he can retain his position on his performances. The important point being he had to wait for a number of injuries to get his chance, when he should have been trusted with starts in the starting eleven before this point.

Former Chelsea and Everton winger Pat Nevin speaking to BBC Sport on players who have caught his eye: "One player I had seen a little before was young Elliot Anderson up at Newcastle. I couldn't quite make my mind up from his performances last season. Was he going to be a very good player or an exceptional one? I have now got to see him in the flesh a few times this season and the answer is clear, he will be exceptional. "He caught my eye not only because of his match intelligence and skill, but the fact that he is already keeping star signing Sandro Tonali - who cost over £60m from AC Milan - out of the team. "There was also a more personal reason for my interest. Elliot hasn't chosen between representing Scotland or England. He was in the last Scotland Squad but withdrew at the last moment with an 'injury', though he played a few days later for his club. As a Scot I obviously hope he chooses Scotland in the end, but I have no doubt England manager Gareth Southgate has been on the phone and I do not blame him."
