"After having made an initial offer, OM decided to withdraw from the Roony Bardghji case. The 19-year-old winger is still experiencing pain in his knee and OM does not want to take any risks in this operation. Porto is now the only team in the running in the dossier"

Caulkin in The Athletic today: "The problem is Burnley, who are reported to value Trafford in the £30m-£40m bracket; for context, £30m is the most ever paid for an English goalkeeper, a distinction that belongs to Jordan Pickford and Aaron Ramsdale. Multiple sources at Newcastle have told The Athletic they are unwilling to spend this much; they have previously scouted Joan Garcia, who is now moving from Espanyol to Barcelona, and retain an interest in Lille’s Lucas Chevalier." https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6421327/2025/06/13/newcastle-five-goalkeepers-sign-a-sixth/ Nothing new, but reassuring that we wont overspend here

Mike McGrath's name is on it too tbf, he is generally one of the more reliable journos
-
Edwards and Mike McGrath of the Telegraph reporting this now, saying we're in direct talks with Burnley. They mention Chevalier as an alternative if Burnley don't lower the £30m asking price.

Supposedly Rangers fans didn't think much of his recruitment strategy, and signed a fair few duds at Southampton - although also some notable successes too like Van Dijk :https://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/football/23507654.look-back-ross-wilsons-recruitment-southampton-rangers/ Done very well at Forest though, can't deny that. Been good at player trading and signed some gems for low fees. Imagine his remit would involve less target identification here with Howe and Nickson on top of that though.

GET THE THREAD STARTED Oh wait
-
Agreed, think he's class. If we had to overpay on him I don't think I'd mind that much tbh. The fact that PSG want him too is encouraging
-
Bournemouth want €70m/£59m for Zabarnyi. PSG only willing to go to €50m. Wonder if we might come in for him at some point. Was rumoured Howe liked him a while back I think
-
Original report on our interest said 35 million euros would be the price, so just a rough coversion I guess
-
Eddie Howe's enquiring Mags
-
Think he was LW and second striker at Watford, which is encouraging because it probably means if we sign him we'll also sign an out-and-out RW too
-
Saw some Brighton fans say up until whatever happened the other week he was fine. Watford fans seem to think very highly of his professionalism/workrate too.
-
Needs to be a true fuck off price. Think Maguire at £80m is the most expensive ever still, isn't he? Even that wouldn't seem worth selling Tino for.
-
Mark Douglas: "The sales pitch to Pedro and other forward targets has been that Eddie Howe is considering evolving his system in certain games to play two up front – which means that any incoming attacking signings would not be forced to play second fiddle to Alexander Isak." https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/newcastle-system-60m-transfer-wingers-list-3736896

He rejected Brentford or someone similar last summer didn't he? And gave an interview where he said he was happy to wait until an elite CL club came in for him. Oops! Definitely a player in there by the looks of it tbf, just not a project we need to take on right now if we're looking for a RW to come in and hit the ground running as a starter.
-
It's because Elanga is the player who fits the profile we're looking for and is within the range of our current purchasing power. That he and Isak are buddies is just a bonus.
-
Much better than chasing whoever the new trendy player is every transfer window like some clubs do. Speaks to a coherent strategy and as you say, hard to think of a player we've had a serious interest in who hasn't kicked on after us not signing them for whatever reason.
-
Bakayoko would be a huge risk, he's been bad enough that he's been dropped for low-level Eredivisie games this season. Of course could be improved by Howe as most are, but wouldn't feel comfortable with him being our main RW reinforcement.
-
They're probably furious because now they'll have to do some actual grafting
-
Apologies, it was 5 goals, 9 assists last season
-
Season before was good as well (6 goals, 11 assists)
-
They mean they've heard of him and don't get to have the experience of watching a Youtube compilation and deciding he's the best player on the planet despite having not seen a single minute of him playing
-
£40m seems more than fair for a young player with his numbers
