Newcastle United vs. Fulham: 01/02/25 @ 15:00 (No UK TV)
Crimson Cardigan replied to HaydnNUFC's topic in Football
This is my first ever visit to St James but my fifth Newcastle match. My previous record reads: Blackburn 0-0 Newcastle Fulham 5-2 Newcastle Fulham 2-1 Newcastle Arsenal 4-1 Newcastle So yeah. A win of any description would be wonderful! -
We certainly made them look like the fastest football team ever assembled. The way they just breezed past our players time and time again…alarming. hopefully it’s just a case of us being knackered and them, somehow being fresh as a daisy despite all their injuries and run of games.

I don’t think it comes down to preferring Osula. We need three strikers. Osula is raw AF and, let’s be honest, has very unimpressive numbers to this point. The second guy needs to be a different profile, more experienced for sure.
-
Howe obviously thinks he can bring DCL back towards his best. We also need a player who’s happy enough to just sit on the bench and get 10-15 mins at best most weeks. It’s a tricky role to fill. We have the kid in Osula so I guess we need one more experienced option…

Post Chris Wood you’d think people might be a little more careful about declaring players “championship level at best”.

You know who has seen him play? Eddie and the staff. When asked about him Eddie said something to the effect of: he’s a real nice guy and is liked by the players. read between the lines. -

He was. He got a little better over many years. Not sure how that’s related to the greek -

I think it would be helpful if people stop viewing the Greek as a viable option. Forest think he’s useless and Eddie thinks he’s useless. He’d probably pick Ruddy ahead of him. -
It’s hard to get stressed about the constant speculation cos I just can’t really see where else he goes at this stage: Man U: can’t afford him Arsenal: can’t afford him Chelsea: maybe cos rules don’t apply to them Liverpool: do they have 150m? City: can afford him but Haaland Bayern: Kane Real: all in on Mbappe Barcelona: rules don’t apply but even still they can’t pull that many levers.

Didn’t bother me. We need him right now. If a bit of love from the stands helps with that, then that’s fine. -

It’s been widely reported he doesn’t want a new contract, he wants a payoff to stick around and turn down Saudi (for now) fair enough given his performances and the fact we have no other viable options. as others have said there is no “cash in” option and the wages are negligible -
Nah mate Dubs has to stay now. We can’t rely on Pope’s fitness and we are fighting on three fronts here. Whatever payoff they have to give till the end of the season won’t mean anything PSR wise.

The Greek is pretty clearly absolutely useless. Forest fans were thrilled to be rid of him and they have Matz Sels in goals. -

Psychologically going out there without peak season Pope is hard to quantify but we needed as many experienced heads as possible to handle that atmosphere. I don’t want to be going into a final with a third choice keeper again. -

We got absolutely shafted by not having a real keeper in the last cup final. There is zero incentive to let him go now, let him walk in the summer. -
For my sins, I’m a season ticket holder at the Aviva so I’ve seen a lot of Kelleher. He’s a steal at 20 million, excellent with his feet. I have no idea if Trafford could become better in time, but right now Kelleher is well ahead. People will get fixated on that one mistake against us, but he was brilliant on the run for Liverpool prior to that.

As insanely frustrating as all this is, is it not the case that pretty much everyone bar Man City is also at least somewhat hemmed in by PSR? Arsenal do not have 150M for Isak, Man U can’t buy a player in Jan, Barca are finally out of road with their leavers etc. the hope would be that if PSR starts biting the cartel 6 and big clubs abroad the rules will have to change. -
Even as poster renowned for “unusual” takes over the years this is right up there. No. He’ll be nowhere near ready to start a premier league game after 9 months out. Obviously.
-
“Some form”? The form of his life surely.

No signings without sales according to Howe for the last few pressers. Waugh says Longstaff is likely to go but who’s bidding? Kind of seems like we’d need to get rid of two fringers to buy a first team ready player.
-
No agree with that. Just not sure it’s “lazy” or “inept”. Unless you’re talking about our account department. Sadly.

I mean Ornstein is ligit. Hopefully it doesn’t mean much but doesn’t sound great.
