Benny Benitez: Parky 6 Benny 2 (Benitez watch.). Inter sack the waiter.

Aye, but the way Liverpool fans are going on about it, you'd think they'd won the Champions League 3 out of 6 times.

Benitez is a good manager I reckon. It's hard to hide from his failings in the transfer market though. As far as I can tell he spent about £40m this summer (I know he re-couped £30m of it) and that money spent has been horrifically underwhelming.

Yep. Taking them from 2nd to 7th whilst spending £10m in the process is always going to cause a few ripples of discontent like. :)

Ha ha..

Benitez is a great manager, but he's been there 5 years and his feet have probably gone to sleep in addition to those cuntish owners having excessive input. He'll do well wherever he goes.

Really? A world force again? Please, the extra Champions League slot allocated to the Premier League gave Liverpool their exposure in Europe again. They averaged 3rd position throughout their Premier League history, so it was hardly Rafas doing. He inherited a team already capable of getting into Europe.

Lol. Talk about a straw man.

Since when have being capable of getting into Europe and being capable of regularly reaching the semis of the CL been even vaguely the same thing?

EDIT:

3 Semi's out of 6 - so you got their half of the time, not regular.

Which planet do you live on where 3 CL semis in 6 seasons is not outstanding?  :idiot2:

Where did I say it wasn't outstanding? I simply said it wasn't regular, which you were calamining. What is outstanding is that you got so far in the Champions League via the backdoor, one season the rules even made so you could enter again. Liverpool is the luckiest undeserving club in the Premiership, so this unfortunate coverage of Rafa and a possible demise has got all your backs up.

Deal with it, its happened nearly every other club at one point or another. Look at what happened to Portsmouth this season - did you see any of their fans (apart from the bell with the bell) act like total mongs? No.

The CL is designed so that the big teams get to the latter stages.

Of course he's not keen.

He could have had the Chelsea job long term if he wanted it- working with his mate Roman as his boss, shitloads of money to spend, the best squad in the country to work with, already settled in, liked by the players & fans etc etc

He wanted a new challenge with a national team though.

Of course, the arrogance and delusion of Liverpool fans meant loads of them seriously thought they could get Hiddink regardless. Europa League football, wantaway stars, average squad, financial problems and more underhand politics than Whitehall... how could he resist the mighty reds?

There's your plausible answer.

I'm not sure where Brian Reade got the idea that they had the fifth highest wage bill - wacko, do you know? For example, in 2006/7 Deloitte had Chelsea 114M, Man U 85M, Arsenal 83M, Liverpool 69M, Newcastle 52M. I'm going to guess that he's added Manchester City in, which would be actively misleading and clearly show his agenda. I stand to be corrected, mind.

So what's your point then? My criminal misuse of the word "regular" for a series of occurrences that were not actually punctuated by equally sized intervals?

Or is "regular" somehow better than "outstanding"?

And you honestly believe that winning a competition does not merit inclusion in it the following year? The 4th-placed side in the EPL is more deserving of CL participation than the reigning champions?

Deal with what? Your talking shite and then changing the subject because you're argument is nonsense?

The CL is designed so that the *seeded* teams get past the group stages, and that teams from the same country are kept apart one stage further. That seeding has to be earned by winning games in Europe over a number of seasons. That's how we got to be a "big" team in Europe.

I'm not sure where Brian Reade got the idea that they had the fifth highest wage bill - wacko, do you know? That sounds about right to me. I'd be surprised if Man City's wage bill isn't higher than ours now. Their squad certainly cost more than ours (as did Tottenham's).

Think he's done a decent job myself, although he's left Liverpool exposed on the "domestic footballer" front.

That depends who comes in and who leaves this summer. At the moment, we still have a good side. Rafa just never really got the hang of the English game.

Redknapp would be mental to go to Liverpool not that he will.

Hope he does so Spurs take a nose-dive!

I hate the guy but his record of improving clubs then them failing after he leaves is quite good. I'd happily see Liverpool do better at the expense of Spurs. That may mean me hating Liverpool more than Spurs if he does he it though and then what?

Deal with Liverpool's lucky streak over the last 10 years coming to an end.

As for the rules being switched around to allow Liverpool in to defend their title (more luck) no, I don't think they should have been allowed in, though I don't believe we should have a 4th Champions League spot either (even if you do have to qualify).

Your use of the word 'regular' was a little criminal, as if it was some blasé competition you've often waltzed your way through. I'm not changing the subject, but couldn't see it progressing as you're stuck in your defensive Scouser attitude towards protecting your team (understandable) and I'm stuck in the opinion that Liverpool are a lucky, undeserving Media Whoring team living off the 80s.

Though perhaps I shouldn't allow my dislike for Liverpool and its fans to sway my opinion so much. Its not as if everything bad in Football has had Liverpool attached to it in the last 20 years... oh wait...

What makes it even more infuriating is the FACT (not a real fact, more a Rafa fact) Liverpool fans can't stomach it that people are saying Rafa spent shitloads to try and achieve success, or that they have been lucky, or that the media loves them.

Think he's done a decent job myself, although he's left Liverpool exposed on the "domestic footballer" front.

A starting 11 perhaps, but one injury and it falls a part - again another Rafa failing.

A 10-year lucky streak? Are you serious?

Luck that one World Class player (Owen than Gerrard now Torres) was able to turn a game on its head to win something - yeah, that's lucky or perhaps fortunate.

2001 FA Cup

Arsenal's game throughout until Michael Owen showed up and scored two goals in the last 10 mins

2003 League Cup

Liverpool don't face any real test on the way to the final

Round 3[1] Liverpool 3–1 Southampton

Round 4 Liverpool 2–2 Ipswich Town

(Liverpool won 5–4 on penalties)

Round 5 Aston Villa 3–4 Liverpool

Semi-final (1st leg) Sheffield United 2–1 Liverpool

Semi-final (2nd leg) Liverpool 2–0 Sheffield United

2005 Chamions League

An overconfident Milan fall asleep in the 2nd half to allow Liverpool back into the game. Liverpool win on Pens.

2006 FA Cup

Gerrard smacks a hopeful long range shot that takes it to penalties.
