Rob
we do have the quality to beat teams like liverpool, but not if we play for draws... we need a winning mentality ... our football is far too negative

No one's forgetting it, but this was a home match: no team should be as comfortable as that at St. James'. this isnt the keegan years. we dont rape and pillage teams anymore. liverpool spend god knows how many millions in the summer, we spend hardly anything in comparison and from looking at that match thread (post kick off) most of the posters expected victory. we cant just beat every team anymore. we are overrated in our own heads. I'm sorry, but even the likes of Birmingham City, Sunderland, etc. played much better against Liverpool than we did. It's nowt to do with being gung-ho, it's about giving them a fucking game, at least.

Coxaux
To be honest I don't think we set out for a 0-0. Away from home this season we've been trying to contain teams first half and break forward second and I think we attempted this tactic today, Geremi supposedly being "the link" between midfield and defense. However, as soon as they got the second our heads went down and we rolled over. This resulted in our neat (but very rare) passages of play turning into a long ball game, which inevitably played into Liverpool's hands...

Is simply playing like you want to be on the pitch too much to ask as well? football's changed. it doesnt work like that anymore. its talent over desire (for the most part anyway) No, it's both, we have a fair amount of talent but seem to have zero desire. Won't get anywhere without wanting to win. Liverpool looked like they wanted it so much more today. Ignore the fact they are a better team talent wise, they wanted it more and that is why they did us all over the pitch. You can have as much talent as you want but if the player doesn't want it, there's no use them being on the pitch in the first place.

Absoulutly correct thats why our midfilders were so deep in the first half. After we conceded there were no plan B.
