On the issues of Keegan's involvement, it is worth bearing in mind some of the target younger players may not remember him or know much about him.

Martins will link them to his youtube videos

As past players (incl Shearer) have often claimed it was Keegan who 'sold' the club to them I hope he is still part of the pre-signing process. I would hope Jimenez/Wise are initial contacts who say something along the line of, "Come and speak to the gaffer (Keegan), he really wants to meet with you." Then after Keegan weaves his magic the others tie up any loose ends & other details.

I would say that any player that is willing to sign for a club without actually having a discussion with the man who'll be his manager is an absolute moron of the highest order. I'd expect it to go the way you're saying, except maybe terms and such will be agreed with his agent/s (or in the process), while the player has a chat about Keegan about the club and his possible role in the team in the other room.

Mamic had an interview on a local radio station, in which he confirmed that an official offer has arrived today from Newcastle's side but it was rejected.

Mamic claims it's the biggest offer any Croatian player has ever received, but still decided it wasn't good enough and urged the Newcastle officials to improve on it.

He also states that he was in Newcastle with his brother only, so it seems Modric wasn't there after all.

so the question is: what's the biggest fee for a croatian player? seems like normal negotiations, first offer almost never gets accepted...

Pretty much confirms what we all thought was going on. Brilliant that we are going after this calibre of player.

Definitely, brilliant stuff.

After reading what has now been said, it's made me feel even more confident that we can bring Modric to the club.  :D

Probably already posted but more KK quotes from today

We really put our two lists together because they have got a massive expertise in Europe.

"While on one list we have got all the top ones, they are looking at the ones who maybe you can get who will be the next top ones, but are younger.

When we put them together, it was quite interesting.

"That's it now. If someone asks me how we are getting on with our targets, I can honestly say, 'I don't know' because I am not party to that. But I will know the minute they are complete or have failed, I guess - hopefully complete."

We couldn't be being used here a la Wayne "I really want to go to Man U but they'll come and buy me if I say I'm going to Newcastle" Rooney? Except substitute Liverpool for Man U?

Sorry to put the dampeners on like.
