Every manager we have seems to love Nicky Butt

He is good. it´s just that he cant pass a ball

But isn't that a slightly fundamental aspect of being a good footballer?

Its OK if hes paired with someone who can pass and looks to take over in that department, which is why ive not understood why hes been partnered with Emre so rarely, despite them looking good together whenever its happened.

Hmmm, apparantly let a lot of "Big players, especially defenders" go because we wouldn't spend the money!

Yet the board let him spend 6 million on Smith, on a whim with no real idea how he would fit into the team, and 6 million on a unproven teenage leftback.

Doesn't really ring true, Sam.

But hes saying that those signings were made afterwards, ie after he had missed out on several players, and also that other players werent possibilities because they would be big money signings (£10m plus?).

didnt expect boro to go with one upfront, tho i think its been forced by selection problems it might suggest they'll sit back and defend. i'd prefer them to come at us as we're not great at breaking down well organised teams who sit back all game. three in midfield means emre is not going to have a lot of space, not neccessarily a bad thing as he thrives when play is congested and he can slip a simply ball out wide into space. the worry is, can barton and duff take advantage of that?
