Is that the sort of set-up that AC Milan used to win the Champions League last season?

-----------------Dida----------------

Oddo - Nesta - Maldini - Kaladze

- Gattuso - Pirlo - Ambrosini -

-----------Kaka - Seedorf---------

Gerrard as Captain, I wonder if Terry will get it back..

He should never ever be allowed to captain his country again after the pathetic performances he put in when we needed him as skipper.

Barry further left than Carrick would make more sense.

Don't know what your talking about? ;)

:D

I can't think of an England game I've given less of a shit about btw.

Gattuso is permanently on the right and Ambrosini the left, their jobs are to protect the attacking fullbacks.

Seedorf plays ahead of Ambrosini, Kaka is given more freedom most of the time, but the team I showed is the basic setup of Milan more often than not.

Sorry about the statement of apathy, its just I am too pre-occupied with our predicament.

But I will say that Bentley is going to be a major star for england if given a chance and we should get him in the summer if we stay up.

is that better?

Doug.

AM optimistic about capellos team selection, but there are a few quirky choices.

This seems pretty promising:  "Skipper Steve Gerrard will be joined in midfield by David Bentley, Ashley Young and Owen Hargreaves."

AM not familiar with A young, but am assuming he is in form.  WHich is great to see a player picked on that basisi and not just because hes from the top 5, which that spineless mung mclaffin used as his selection criteria.

AM not convinced about joe cole as a `beadsley` type striker, but it will be an interesting experiment!

Actually looking forward to this england game....i havent felt that since japan!

Actually, I'm quite intrigued to see how Joe Cole gets on. Pele in the past has claimed he is the only Englishman warranting selection if he was Brazillian and championed his cause to be given a free role off the front. In international football seldom are you going to score by playing two wingers and whipping crosses in ala premiership style. You need the skill to unlock a defence and a Rooney Cole partnership might be what we need-an interesting experiment.

I agree it's great to see Bentley and Young getting chances as they have been the form wide players in midfield. Infact if Barry hadn't been injured for a few weeks since Capello took over I suspect he may have been starting alongside Gerrard. As it is, I think Gerrard Hargreaves is a very well balanced combination in the midfield.

The main thing I have noticed about this SUPPOSED selection is that the players chosen are technically efficient players, not just pace and power. The inclusion of Bentley, Young, Hargreaves, Cole, Rooney show signs of a switch from direct power play to a technical controlled style of play that Capello has adopted all of his career.

Personally I think England are going to be relatively successful under Capello but whether I will be able to stay awake until the end of the matches is yet to be determined. I fully expect a slow, controlled , possession approach will odd flashes of breaking forward.

Owen dropped according to the morning rags.

Doesn't warrant his place on form so fair enough.

Would be a strange drop though tbf, i mean he was picked, after he was picked he scores in a game for us, then is dropped.
