Ikon
It says today in a Swedish newspaper that we've been watching a U21 player called Rasmus Bengtsson(Trelleborg) on several occasions and that we're supposed to be watching him yet again when the U21s play this week. Don't know much about him but he's 21 and hasn't made himself a very big name in football yet. I hear he's regarded as one of the top centre half prospects in this country though. Maybe someone else from Sweden can fill me in... I have no idea. I have a friend who plays for Trelleborg who i can ask about him, But he's a busy guy and i dont have his phone number right now.. LooneyToonArmy
Otherwise known as Jo the striker who plays for CSKA Moscow. 6 foot 3 with pace, power and skill and only 21 and has a ridiculous scoring record in the Russian league as well as performing in the champions league too. Now he keeps getting linked to Man City, but I have a feeling we will show some interest. Fits all the criteria of what we are supposedly looking for in our new signings, and doesn't quite appear to be drawing the big time attraction from the top clubs yet. Anyone else seen much of him, and if so what think you? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jo%C3%A3o_Alves_de_Assis_Silva Keegan had already said he wont sign South Americans....well those that haven`t proven themselves in the EPL unfortounately

Dokko
Can anyone remember when SBR said he could go out and buy us a load of cheap South Americans that would win us the league in an instant, but he doesn't want too?

Guest Sniffer
You really want me to list them dave?
Dave
You really want me to list them dave? Are you seriously suggesting we should rule out buying players from an entire continent just because we've had some shit players from there before? Because if so, I don't think we'd be able to buy players from anywhere in the world.
Guest Sniffer
I'm saying that our track record is one of not being able to identify south americans...solano is the exception and he ain't no tevez....and I see no reason to think that has changed with the personnel we have now. So I wouldn't be too keen to invest heavily in players from there if I was Ashley. Far too risky.

Wullie
Some of them South Americans have dark skin. We don't want any of them round these parts.

Guest Sniffer
I don't know where you saw these silky skills but it wasn't at SJP in one of our shirts.
Guest Heneage
What South Americans would we actually be going for, the majority of this generation have got their moves to Europe. It's pointless trying to grasp if South americans as a whole are good or bad, because for every Gavilan you have Acuna, for every Bassedas you have Elano. It would be nice to see a few moves or bids for players early, as the longer you wait for the Euros the harder it gets.
Dave
As long as you are satisfied with the quality of our SA signings that's the main thing wullie. Apart from the Englishman Alan Smith (and to some degree the Englishman Joey Barton away from the pitch), his signings have all worked out pretty well. His signings weren't the problem, he just didn't have a clue how to use them. Edit - forgot Rozehnal. Good thing we didn't sign that Modric, eh? Croatia's quite close to the Czech Republic after all. Guest Heneage
Mentioned it in the Martins thread but 3 EPL clubs are looking at Nicola Zigic of Valencia, 1 is un-named.

Dave
Oops. Still, the point remains. Doesn't matter where they come from, if they're good they're good. If they're shit, they're shit.
Wullie
How many South Americans have we had in the Premiership era? Five maybe (Solano, Acuna, Bassedas, Gavilan, Cordone, any more?), of which two have been a success of sorts, not a bad record. I hear Fergie and Sven want Smith and Barton back to replace Tevez and Elano though.
