Guest Spark
Out of interest, why have you put Ronaldo at £30m and Batistuta at £40m? Do you reckon Batistuta was better at his peak?
Liam Liam Liam O
Is this a preview of what we're going to have to put up with when Dave opens the transfer/rumour forum in the summer?

Shearergol
I suppose the real question which is being asked is do we think Ronaldo is better than any of those? Difficult one. I don't think he's reached his peak, and when he does, he'll be better than every player on that list IMO.
Guest Coubury
George Best would easily be worth 50 million Ronaldo is our modern day Besty
Slugsy
Wasn't Pele deemed to be priceless? Not joking, wasn't he at one point classed as a national treasure to stop him from being transferred abroad? Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me or its an old fishwives tale but I'm sure I read something like this ages ago.

Thorpinho
well if ronaldo is worth 100 mil in today's money, then surely maradona would be pretty much the equivalent or higher.

Guest assyriantoon
Each of them would be sold to a huge club for around £20million unless they are already at one. Then, who ever has them would slap a ridiculous £200 million sell on fee so that nobody could take them away. Therefore, in their primes they could only theoritacally leave for a cheaper forced transfer of around £40 million or on a bosman.
Tooj
I wonder how much a 23 year old Gazza would be worth in today's market, especially when you consider the price Rooney went to Man Utd for, who in all due respect I think is a class player. But not on Gazza's level.

Unbelievable
I suppose the real question which is being asked is do we think Ronaldo is better than any of those? Difficult one. I don't think he's reached his peak, and when he does, he'll be better than every player on that list IMO. You're off your head. It's possible I guess, but at this point he's not even the best current football player, let alone close to being or becoming the best player of all times. Colocho
If we signed Shearer today, like we did in 1996 I reckon he would cost at least £25 million, maybe even £30m.
Guest ObaStar
way more. in 1996 15 million was the world transfer record. that is equivalent to 46 million nowdays. Sheraer would have been about 40 million I think. Lets remember he had scored 30 premier league goals for 3 seasons in a row, more impressive than ronaldo. Hes also the highest scoring player in the premier league ever.
Martin Lol
Wasn't Pele deemed to be priceless? Not joking, wasn't he at one point classed as a national treasure to stop him from being transferred abroad? Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me or its an old fishwives tale but I'm sure I read something like this ages ago. Absolutely correct. Juventus bid £2m for Pele in 1957 when the then world record transfer fee was £72000. The Brazilian government declared him a National Treasure that could not be exported so he played his entire meaningful football career in Brazil with Santos. FWIW Juve still broke the world record transfer fee in 1957 by signing Sivori for £93000, but unfortunately Sivori doesn't live long in the memory like Pele.
