Guest Knightrider
Just came back from there, canny night with one or two interesting things. First off, it's clear that a lot of KK's original success came about because of the fantastic team spirit, they were all best mates and as Beardsley said, would die for one another. Importantly the foreign players all loved it in Newcastle, Albert and Tino especially who took to Newcastle as if it were a home from home. Beresford said that was down to us as people and the nature of the city. Says when NUFC sign foreign players they should look to sign happy go lucky characters, fun characters like those two who would come to love the area and people affectionately which helps them settle better than any other method. Some of the tales they talked about regarding those two had us all in stiches. Beardsley said in Tino he had some weird on pitch relationship with him, an understanding, and loved the bloke and his talent. Everyone did. Much to the popular opinion, Beardsley said Tino made that dressing room even stronger and was an inspired buy by KK. Anyway some other things. Beardsley said he knew Dalglish would fail the moment they had their first team meeting, wouldn't look any players in the eye, and focused on tactics too muc, also deliberately dismantled KK's side to distance himself from that era, in a stubborn way. Fell out with a lot of players, Bez included. Said to Bez he had to play heartless Pistone over Bez becuase he paid all that money for him and it would have looked bad if he didn't get games. Beardsley said he changed from when he was LFC manager where he basically fell into the job and let players play just like KK does, at Newcastle thought he was the daddy, do this do that, trying to teach Beardsley how to take on players, something he tried to do with Barnes. Said SBR was partly to blame for his own demise, hung on to long, everyone knew the club needed to move him on but felt it had to come from Bobby such was his ego... bit harsh I thought. All unaminous that Big Sam was a lucky bastard and well shot of. Beardsley said FS choose the wrong managers but always stumped up the cahs, heart in the right place. Doesn't agree with Ashley wearing his Toon top and mixing with fans. Would love to work with kids at NUFC academy but doesn't like how it's set up. Says they need less coaching, more free play. Bez bigged him up, said it's a crime how he has to work for Boro and not his boyhood team. Beardsley basically called Geremi shit and a good few others like Smith which I thought was harsh or something I didn't think should have been said, they are our players after all, united front and all that, said don't believe what says about quality of squad, will have been aghast at the position those players allowed themselves to get in, even when Beardsley and Bez was there, KK was always looking to improve on them, if he could have bought a better player than KK, he'd have been out. Citing sale of Cole, Sellars, Kelly, Peacock etc. Also said KK will only give you a few chances, even if he bought you, if you don't show yourself capable, you'll soon be out. Can be deadly ruthless and isn't always the nice guy. Tore strips off everyone during his first spell as manager, but he didn't hold grudges so long as a player was prepared to accept who he was working for. KK very much the boss, very high standards, but in a fun, relaxed and challenging environment. You could tell they love the bloke. Beardsley reckons Shearer doesn't have the enthusiasm needed to work with average players or to coach, or to work at a lower league club, says it's Newcastle or nothing for him, but isn't positive it's destined to be him one day. Bez was the opposite, doesn't think Shearer wants to caoch players as such like Beardsley, but yearns to be a manager and a manager of NUFC, reckons he'd do well as he's the most driven, most dedicated pro he's known. All excited about the summer, but question the set up with Wise etc. They don't think KK is fully happy with it, but both said if it came down to it there would only ever be one winner - KK. Beardsley doesn't think Houghton is a KK decision either and Bez reckons we'll see more and more changes on the coaching side. Reckons KK will try and get rid of Wise before too long. I got the impression from them KK agreed to it to see how it pans out, will have his say if he doesn't think it's working though and with him being in a strong position, Ashley will have to back him. They both said KK will be the only one with final say on signings, make no mistakes about that. All reckon there will be money to spend and that KK will turn it all around. Me and my bro-law asked the following question: "We all love KK, delighted he's back, but isn't NUFC bigger and what happens when KK leaves, who can do the job? Are we not in danger of the club becoming a KK only type club." Beardsley saw our point and knew where we were coming from but said what would you rather have, no KK or KK. I said why does it have to be one or the other, he said "fucking enjoy it man, who cares about the future" Like I said, canny night, Beardsley was asked a few questions regarding local talent and youth development and some of his insight was very welcome and pretty much on the money, spoke a lot of sense. Anyway I got the impression that Beardsley and Bez don't think much of the current side in terms of talent or character and that if they know KK as they do, he'll be looking to improve on the vast majority of them as a good number are "shite" to use there own words and not KK players in terms of ability and character. Owen is the only safe player they reckon, all up in teh air with the others. Don't underestimate KK etc. Beardsley also said Oliver is basically a cunt (a twat they called him) and needs to shut his mouth, blamed him for the Modric leak. Beardsley also said fans here rule and when we decide a manager or player isn't good enough, that's usually curtains for them, says this works in our favour at times and against it at other times. Said KK has our respect though so Ashley and co would be wise to remember that as it won't be KK that gets it if things go wrong. Thinks Taylor has went backwards and is a lucky boy to be playing for Newcastle. Mind he said that about a few of the players. Says there is a massive gap between the current young hopefuls like Edgar and Carroll and those 4-5 years behind them coming through, is hoping Wise and co sort the academy out as it's a mess. Although they don't like the set up with Wise they can see why Ashley went for it, but both agreed KK has to do the selling as he's basically an expert con artist. Told Bez when he spoke to him before signing that NUFC would get promoted, be in Europe a year later and that Bez would get called up by England. Bez said: "This man's on fucking drugs, especially as I'd failed a medical at Liverpool", but he signed and all those things happened. Said because of that, despite his disagreements with KK, fall-outs and what have you, he'd jump off the Tyne Bridge for the man and to a man they all would have, says we must get in players who would die for KK to succeed again, questions whether we have enough of them, but is confident KK will ship them on if not so. To summarise, a good laugh, some really good tails about those earlier days, some good insights about the club then and now, KK and the game in general and an overall feeling that NUFC are going to turn the corner soon. We also won the auction for Beardsley's Italia 90 semi-final boots and raised a good few quid for a local junior footy club.Oh and tha bairns' Toon annuals from 95 (hand me doons) were signed. Tope fellas, Beardsley and Bex, and the organiser who had us in stitches. Not usually my cup of tea but was invited. Canny pie and pea dinner anarl

Guest Knightrider
Oh and Beardsley was on 5K per week when he signed for Liverpool, 1200 at Toon, which is a lot on the 80s.
Guest Knightrider
Beardsley fears Man Utd will be in for Beye, exactly there type of player. Bez said while the fans love Martins and understandably so because of the type of player he is, thinks players will be frustrated to hell with him, likes him though. Bez said one day he was doing some presentation for a school or something in washinton, Lee clark picked him up but said he'd have to dress in a Toon tracksuit. Clarkie dropped him off in a mackem end of Washington, had to get the polis to escort him out. Said playing for NUFc in those days was a joy, football and personal with all the friendships and banter between fans and players, kept referring to Julies and some madcap moments with Albert and Tino. One day they were on the coach away, Watson was in charge of entertainment, Tino gave him a tape and said put it on so they did, was only Tino banging some lass. KK said howay lads, enough of that, but Tino said "no no meesta, my missus, leave, we enjoy" (Bez tried the accenrt)and it was Some Italian porn star he was seeing. Albert would only ever watch Sid the Sexist tapes and tried out his chatup lines doon the Toon with lasses, kept saying "rewind" and then laughing hysterically at the jokes on Sid the Sexist tapes, thought it was the funniest thing ever and tried out geordie accents wherever he went, well and truly loved the place and Bez reckoned he was geordie in his previous life or something. Some of the antics of Tino Sadly you get the impression today football isn't like that no more, a camaraderie between players and fans, where they coulkd drink and mix together and go out in Toon to have some fun. They never took liberties and KK was a gossip whore, always wanting to know what had happened on weekends with the players so he could rip the piss. I also got the impression Howey was a thick fucker who they all took the piss out of. Missed loads of the banter and talk though with tabs, bog, drinks. merlin
Beardsley NOT harsh about SBR - he was quite correct.. Both him AND Bez are right about most of today's team, ESP Geremi - he is well-below what we should have in midfield.. Disagree with Beardlsey about 'just enjoy it, never mind the future'...that has been what was wrong with NUFC over the years, ans successful clubs ALWAYS plan for the future.. Agree with Bez's view of Shearer more than Beardsley's, but the whole thing sounded quite interesting. Also agree that KK DOES have a ruthless side, and so he should - he probably learned that from Shanks.
sicsfingeredmong
Completely agree with their take on Robson & Taylor, and Taylor won't have long in terms of showing Keegan that he's worthy of a spot in KK's plans. And i'm also in agreement with Beardsley's take on Shearer ie. coaching & the Newcastle job. On another note, it's a shame Asprilla's on-field productivity - re: consistency - didn't live up to his team bus antics.
sicsfingeredmong
I'd like to know the relevance behind Oliver's 'Modric Leak'. Did that leak result in Spurs jumping in with a better offer later in the week, bombing us out of market - and Mort's a cautious player in the transfer market, too cautious imo - in the process? If so, Oliver should be shot. Until now, and i haven't read the appropriate threads etc, i simply assumed that he favoured the Londoners over us. Karjala
Sounds like a class night, and i'd agree with everything Pedro n Bez said.
Cronky
I'm jealous of you for being there. I'm a bit disappointed about their comments on Wise. The big clubs all need to develop elaborate talent-spotting networks all over the world, because the competition is so fierce. It's impossible for one man to do it, and I don't think Keegan is a 'detail' sort of person anyyway. Likewise with Houghton - you need someone to do the research into the opposition and that's never been Keegan's bag. The gung-ho approach that Beardsley and Bez seemed to be talking about won't be as effective as before. And I'd agree about Taylor - he's gone backwards and needs to sort himself. NG32
On anothre note, when they talk about Oliver leaking the Modric deal, who the fuck sends him the info, Oliver needs to be silenced.
Ally
On anothre note, when they talk about Oliver leaking the Modric deal, who the fuck sends him the info, Oliver needs to be silenced. Oliver just re-hashed Croatian media reports though, very harsh on him. Was this talk-in organised by the club? Hope not like.
Wullie
Pretty sure the modric thing had been in most of the morning papers before oliver printed it and it was all over the internet before either of them.
Guest
Think he was spot on about SBR tbh. The points tally we had that season would have had us stumbling around in about 8th or 9th this season. He was saved that season by the fact the likes of Villa & Bolton weren't quite good enough to capitalise.
Crumpy Gunt
On anothre note, when they talk about Oliver leaking the Modric deal, who the fuck sends him the info, Oliver needs to be silenced. Even if Oliver did know about Modric he should have held the story. Why would he run a story that is wholly detrimental to the signing of a major player for the Club he;'s charged with reporting on? Proves what a totally worthless cunt he is.

Hence we finished 5th as all the team above us spent and improved their squads.
Wallace
On anothre note, when they talk about Oliver leaking the Modric deal, who the f*** sends him the info, Oliver needs to be silenced. Proves what a totally worthless c*** he is. I think Oliver causes a few problems with his exclusives - be it dissatisfied players, new signings or gossip from the training ground. In this day and age, when as soon as something is put online it is around the world instantly, there are times when he should be more circumspect if he has the Club's interests at heart. We didn't sell anyone that season, so still should have finished 4th comfortably, especially given how sh*t Liverpool were that season as well. Iirc, we were competing with the likes of Charlton & Fulham for much of that season.

KaKa
It's so true what they say about foreign players having to have the right personality. I don't think this is taken into account enough. It's part of the reason Martins has settled so well and has formed such a bond with the fans and the area because he does seem to be very outgoing. Someone like Luque on the other hand always seemd a bit withdrawn.
