brummie
Disagree with that, Ferdinand is probably the most naturally talented defender i've ever seen. Though i'm sure some will disagree because of his poor recent form. Paul McGrath my lord. Paul Mcgrath....... It's your round, my Lord, it's your round. McGrath is the most naturally talented footballer I've ever seen play with any regularity (nb - I use the term naturally talented for a reason). He was just awesome Search youtube for paul mcgrath italy for an example. That's the best defensive performance I've ever seen.
Heron
Any Defender is only as good as the unit he's in tbf. I think that's the best answer.
pedro111
Woodgate is the best defender Ive ever seen play for us, but nowadays I'd choose Colo. But if this was 2003 id say Woodgate by a country mile.

Slugsy
Woodgate was a better defender at his peak than anyone I have seen in 28 years in a black and white shirt (ah sh*t, just dawned on me I'm getting old!) - if both players were fit and in peak form, Colo couldn't hold a candle to Woodgate. But as many others have said, not much use if he isn't on the pitch.
