Shay Given signs for Manchester City for £5.9m plus add-ons

The sick thing is that we'll either sign no one with this money or sign some completely average c*** who wont improve us.

I cannot believe how far this club has fallen. We are now a selling club. Back to the 80's, people.

ASHLEY OUT!!!!!!

Based on what? The fact that we didn't sign a direct replacement for Milner, who most fans recognised wasn't worth anywhere near the £12m we got for him?

Yes, the Milner scenario could be one. Also the fact that the Nolan transfer was probably done with the idea of using money fro Shay's transfer to fund it. With only one day of the window left, we'll be very lucky to get anyone other than Ryan Taylor in....

So all based on speculation then, probably possibly.

N'Zogbia has recouped Nolan with money to spare.

If we can't spend the money we raise, Given should be told tough shit, he should have sorted this out a month ago.

We could spend it in summer though, yeah? If Given doesn't want to play for us he should be sold. Same as every other player at the club who feels the same.

It's time this team was made up of players who actually want to be here, not players who came here to pick up stupid wages.

If it was another player yes, but Given is proffessional enough to perform on the pitch, and would make a difference. The money doesn't make a difference if unspent.

Shay is just another football mercenary and what makes it all the more difficult to accept is that he is actually one of the good guys, a proper professional. Oh well, we move on. Thanks Shay. Now fuck off.

What a load of tosh. He moved to Man City because they're way more ambitious than us. End of.

The manner of his exit, the timing etc. he's just another mercenary, they all are at the end of the day. From now on I'll not be putting any stock in any of our players, Shay is the last straw.

It's taken you a while to notice. How many non-mercenaries are there in the whole of football?

Correct. If he'd joined Arsenal, Villa it'd be different. The fact it's the cash cows who may take years even with all of their money to be anything more than midtable, suggests the mercenary angle.

Can't imagine i'll ever forgive him, not that he'll care like :D

Nope, not at all. I think he's gone there for the wages from the unlimited supply of cash they have. If he had true ambition he's have engineered a move to Arsenal somehow, possibly by actually waiting until summer, like most players do.

Erm, no. It's my response to your ambition claims. Man City weren't ambitious until someone gave them an open cheque book.

The timing of his exit? Sorry, but er... he was off well before today's game.  And what's with the manner? He released a statement through his lawyer and get on with his football, unlike that french twat. He had to hand in a transfer request because time was running out.(dealine of transfer window)

Man City are going places, we are not. Do you dispute that?

So fucking what though? Thing have changed now. Get over it.

You're laughable.  You're like a little kid can't cope with the fact that your mate has got a larger lolly pop.

Eh? Why the need to get personal?

You're claiming that Given has left us and it has nothing to do with money. That's clearly not true, otherwise he would have waited for a club who is more likely to win things but less likely to give him £120k a week. If he's the best in the league, surely the top 4 would want him?

Laughable indeed.

He's gone, we should close the thread and forget about him.  As has been said there are more important players (those who are still here) and more important issues than Shay and the 2nd class manc club.

This. Nowdays you gotta have cash to be ambitious. City had a good squad before the Arabs as well and probably had ambition of challenging the top4 one day, and with oil money, they can now actually walk the walk. Sad to say it, but if you want to break into the top4 without waiting 5 years for youngsters to break through, you gotta splash it.
