Wasn't the Kezman deal something along the lines of the player actually paying the transfer fee if PSG want to keep him?

My point being the situation isn't entirely dissimilair to ours, they had massive off field trouble, also fresh from a takeover, had decent players who were doing absolutely nothing, nearly relegated, escape by 3 point margin in a pretty poor quality league. This season they get some good players for next to nothing regardless of the wage (which will still be a fraction of ours), and could challenge the powerhouse that is Lyon for the league title.

Argh, seems so simple.

This just proves why clubs need to have faith in their managers, well pre Le Guen maybe not  But with Le Guen, a premiership team probably would have sacked him, but hes come good :D

In a word no. The French League is a completely kettle of fish, you've got Lyon who clearly the best and the likes of Marseille, Lille and Rennes who occasionally push them close then the rest of the league is as open as it gets.

In England the League is much more multi-layered. Even though it's been pretty damn open this year you still have the top three, the pack chasing forth and the likes of West Ham and Wigan doing nothing but sitting comfortably in mid-table. The best we can hope for next season is pushing that group, finishing in a higher mid-table finish that would show massive progress in itself.

Agreed.

Going by the players PSG have brought in, I'd be surprised if they weren't where they are right now.

Ligue One isn't like the Premier League, theres a big drop in quality from the top of the league to around higher mid table and below.

Spot on. To be honest I will be happy with survival at the moment, its difficult to see where we will get the next win from. Even with our first 11 fully fit, we have no motivation, tactics, or fight in us. We need a manager. I cannot believe we are in a relegation fight with no manager, its absolutley f***ing ridiculous. Clinging to the hope that an out of touch heart attack victim with no proven premiership experience is who our clubs owner is pinning his hopes on.

While there are serious barriers preventing a club like Newcastle taking up 1st-5th position in the Premier League. There isn't all that much stopping us from being in 6th,7th, etc. Really it is about getting a decent manager and stability. Failure is inevitable when a club is in chaos, and that's what we've been in for a very good long while. For the last two seasons we have been saved by our most talented players picking up and performing for a short while.

Ligue 1 is very much different than the Premier League in that there is not a monopoly on European places. Only Lyon have been able to consistently be at a CL level. However, the League table is looking the same this season. The first 8 clubs are are battling hard for positioning, but all the clubs underneath them in the table are in relegation concerns. This includes St. Etienne and Nancy who were in UEFA spots last year.

PSG are probably a good comparison to us. Last year they finished 3 points above the drop, now they are pushing for the league.

stopped reading here, worst part of any post ever tbh, comparison doesn't work on any level except we were both shit last season and all

Why? Both massive off-field problems? Check. Both apparent big clubs with big players? Check. Both in the early stages of a not so well done takeover? Check. Obviously we can't compare on next season and we won't be pushing on the league, but that's due to the nature of quality in both leagues.
