Selling players without a manager?

Apparently the cretinous blob is losing 200 grand a day on paying the wages ...

He really needs to lose 200lbs a day instead, then life would probably be much happier for the hapless fattie.

A mass squad exodus is inevitable imo, so i wouldn't have too many problems with it. It needs to be done and it needs to be done quickly because we need funds for a new squad. I can understand the negatives and the potential drama this could cause (doing it without a manager's input)... but look at it from a different direction. If Shearer was appointed now, he's got no money to work with. But if we start offloading the shit now, and we've made £20m from player sales by the time Shearer comes in - he's free to get cracking.

We're going to lose a lot of players regardless. The only real danger of it is losing the wrong players.

Any money received from selling players now will go straight off the debt the club owes Ashley. You can be sure he won't be doing any buy now pay later deals in this transfer window, it will be cut price deals for cash upfront. If we sell a bunch of players now and then sell the club, then the money we get for those players will not be sitting in some transfer kitty given to the new owners, it will just lower the club's assets for the eventual buyer. Obviously the buyer should take that into account in the purchase price, but it's like buying a house while the current owner is stripping out the fixtures and fittings.

If he hadn't paid off the debt we would owe it to other people anyway though, and probably on less favourable terms as well.

Have we made a list of the 15 players on more than £50k that are still under contract?

Owen

Viduka

Martins

Duff

Barton

Butt

Gutierrez

Smith

Geremi

Nolan

Coloccini

Cacapa

Enrique

Beye

Can't think of another player possibly on £50k, maybe Xisco, although it wouldn't surprise me off flaming Ameobi's on £250k/week. The only player who's remotely worth the cash is Beye. The rest can fuck off. Christ on a bike we're in a mess. It's an absolute disgrace that such mediocre players are being paid so much

What if there is no buyer and Ashley just wants to sell as much as he can before he pulls the plug and sends us into Administration... Not only leaving us without players but with a point’s deduction for the start of the new season.

How many times we won't go into Administration as that would mean he would stop himself getting his own money back. He is our only creditor.

Yep, said that up the page, if Ashley hadn't taken on our debt we would owe it too other people anyway, and probably on much less favourable terms.

The point is that the money from any players sold now is not going into some jar labelled "Al's transfer kitty", it's money we wont see again if the club is sold this Summer. If the assumption is correct that Ashley is writing off the debt as part of the sale of the club (I think it has to be for the £100m price tag to be at all realistic) then reducing that debt by selling off the club's assets is simply reducing the worth of the club to the new owners if the price is fixed at £100m, and reducing the money they will be able to generate to spend on new players.

To be honest the sale of the players will only probably pay for the wages they are being paid anyway in the time we're stuck with them.

£1m for duff and minus his wages.  :celb:

We should start a 'NUFC Good news thread' and when things like this come in as confirmed and signed put it in so we have something to smile about while were waiting for the club to be sold.

Yeah, well everything goes onto the club's bottom line, and affects its value for sale accordingly. The fact that the debt is owed solely to Mike Ashley is probably a good thing, that's all I'm saying. It means we don't have a load of creditors baying for their money back, and administration isn't at all likely.
