At last - The Chronicle take a side

Anyone seen today's edition? It's too long to cut and paste, but here's the link;

A case of better late than never, but this should have been said months ago instead of pandering to the club (for quotes) in the mean time. I don't expect a response from Ashley as when he has gone on like he has since he bought the club, why would he bother?

I think the Chronicle was right to hold back until now. It's one thing for fans to vent, but a local newspaper has to try and be objective and give Ashley a chance to prove he's serious, even though it's been apparent for some time he's fucking everyone about.

Hopefully with the local journalists patience finaly snapping, Ashley will start shitting his pants that there is likely to be a major backlash with fans mobilising big style, persuading him to fuck off now while he still can.

Always thought 'lack of communication' was a red herring TBH, what are they meant to say?

"We're trying to sell the club, we haven't managed it yet", we already know that.

They don't have to say anything, just get the club sold.

If the Chronicle are now going to keep the pressure on Ashley until something happens, perhaps they could try and pull together a consortium of local businesses/businessmen prepared to invest in the club. I'm not saying it should be lead by them, but it would only take one or two of the more wealthy folk (Duke of Northumberland, Graeme Wylie) to pledge support should enough people come forward for it to get taken seriously.

I know it's a tad ambitious, but even if they pledged to oversee the club until they were promoted, I'm sure there would be plenty of takers who could then take the club to the next level, giving them some profit on their investment.

Welcome aboard Evening Chronicle. Better late than never.

They supported Hall against McKeag, so let's hope they're a lucky charm.

Exactly, that's what I mean.

If the Chronicle or The Mag think that Ashley is realistically going to give details about what is happening they're living in a dreamworld.

Sadly all we can do is wait and hope something happens as soon as possible.

No we don't have to wait and hope, the local media can certainly make things very uncomfortable for Ashley to string everyone along and contemplate jsut letting the club drift to oblivion. Knowing there is a public storm on the verge of being whipped up give Ashley a bit more incentive to take the best offer and get lost.

Let's hope this is the start of a concerted campaign from the Chronicle.

Almost without exception the rest of the country & media believe that the fans are getting their just dessert and that Ashley has been ill treated. I am sick of hearing that he gave us KK & then Shearer whilst drinking with the fans to gain popularity and acceptance that wasn't forthcoming. These sound bites have provided contempt from the rest of the country towards the fans.

It would be lovely if the truth could now out and for all to see what a complete twat that man is. Tonight's match could be interesting - small crowd, all protesting.

Surely Ashley is already desperate to get out though? I wouldn't have thought we can make him sell any faster than he already wants to.

At the moment everything has to be on Ashley terms & he has unreaslitic expectations on the sale. This needs to change. There is just over a week until the season starts and a month to the end of the transfer window. The value of the club is dropping by the hour; we have a huge wage bill & whoever comes in has little time to sort the manager/ squad out. I reckon 60m-70m would be a decent figure right now.

...

Have you just made that up though?

We don't anything about the details of the bids or anything like that, how can we say whether or not Ashley is being unrealistic?

Wasn't FS always speaking to the chronicle? Maybe they no something we don't and are just helping the fat useless businessman (Ashley that is) on his way.

Ashley's tenure to date tells us he is an arrogant prick who believes he can do what he wants and get what he wants. The man believed we could succeed without investing in the first 11, that he could appoint KK and then fuck him off without expecting a reaction, let Hughton get on with it, expect managers to fall over themselves to come, appoint JK.......etc

Are you suggesting we give Ashley any benefit of doubt?

The 'Newcastle Evening Chronicle' is (as we know) the Regional local evening paper for North East England.

Ashley doen't live in North East England.

The only local evening paper he will see (or care about) is the 'London Evening Standard'

Still, 'word' (might) get back to him, I suppose.  I also suppose he will LAUGH and ignore it (as always).

He will do EXCACTLY what HE wants.  He IS doing exactly what he wants.

I don't know, everyone can make their own mind up.

I'm not going to get into Ashley's corner on anything, but it seems to me that he would be desperate to get out. I don't have any evidence of that, it just seems to make sense.

Councillor and MP's comments seem obvious/harmless, but can't help but feel that they might be making them because of the fear of administration and whatever that entails.

Maybe they know something we don't. Or maybe not.

I feel they're probably making them to score brownie points with the public.
