Can anyone translate what that guy said? So he's not going to prison but will do if he does anything illegal? But it's also possible he won't have to go to prison even if he does do something?

If there was ever a rational thought rattling around the void where this deplorable maggot's brain should be, he could've carved out a respectable career for himself on the lower league managerial merry-go-round.

Instead he chose to jump in, two footed on the 'red pilled, alpha male, anti woke, free speech is under attack' bandwagon but without any of the subtlety or treading the fine line between expressing a strong opinion and hate speech/libel. 

 

I despair at the thought of anyone finding this oxygen thief inspiring.

A suspended sentence means any minor crimes committed in the time of the suspended sentence threshold means he goes to prison to serve the rest of it.

It does and it doesn't. 

 

Barton isn't going to jail over social media posts, and rightly so tbh.

 

If he kicks his Mrs' head in again then this will be taken in to account for sure.

I’m more than happy for people to go to prison for the sort of slanderous shite he came out with - speech isn’t free of consequence.  It’s incitement by the horrible little cunt as well as smearing.  
 

edit: what he said about Vine could have had very, very serious consequences to him.

It's malicious communication, one of which was racially aggravated. I'm not saying he should go to prison immediately but I feel like the suspended sentence hanging over him is what is needed. Like the judge said, I doubt a fine or community service or whatever would have shocked him enough, maybe this will. 

 

I'm fully in favour of free speech but surely people have to learn that the internet isn't just a free-for-all for any kind of hatred and slander you want to pump out.

I think the only reason he isn't in prison is because of how full they are.

I agree in principle, I just work in prisons up and down the country and see what the system is like and how broken it is. There needs to be a middle ground for the likes of what Barton has done, IMO anyway.

 

Not to mention the fact he's already been in prison and it clearly is not a deterrent for him, and the way sentences are panning out if he got 6 months he'd likely do about 6 weeks (if that), the whole thing is just a waste of time and money on a system that is already beyond repair.


In an ideal world, i'm with you though, 100%.


edit: I guess the middle ground is suspending the sentence.

Yep, sadly I agree.  What worries me about some of this is that this will become yet another ‘free speech’ argument and the far right (the true bastion of political freedoms, I’m sure we’ll all agree) will mar a martyr of the lunk-heeded cunt.

 

Hopefully folks will be able to exercise their grey matter and work out that Barton could’ve made all sorts of nasty comments  about Vine and Eluko without ever overstepping the line like he did.  As IW said above the Eluko stuff clearly had a racial motive, too.  But libel and malicious comms that can endanger a person are not fucking on.  Barton won’t get it, not just because he’s a nasty piece of work, but he’s that terrible thing of a thick person who somehow have convinced themselves that they’re smart.

He’s a textbook recidivist, it has to be said - and like you said, it’s in no small part because a few months in the slammer is unlikely to have long-term consequences to him.  It might act as a deterrent for others, mind.

Yeah that's true. The flip side is that anyone who posts this bile is as thick as a whale sandwich though, so probably not.

Am assuming he probably felt safe to say the things he did as others have gotten away with saying roughly the same thing, just with different language.

 

His problem is that he’s thick as pig shit, so the words in his vocabulary have stitched him up essentially.

 

He’s probably been treated harshly in this instance alone but he’s had it coming (and a whole lot more) for every other thing he’s done in recent years.

 

One of the very few players I’m ashamed that’s had any connection with this club.

I think making several unfounded suggestions to an audience of millions that a person is a predatory paedophile is about as criminal as language can get - given what could have happened to Vine as a result, I don’t think he’s been harshly treated at all.

 

I’m in complete agreement re his connection to our club, though I also felt that when he was here.  He was always a horrible bastard.

Aye that’s what I meant, there’s not really a workable way to prevent people from using specific tech. 
 

Although you could maybe stop him from having a personal account under his own name. Not that the platforms would be interested in supporting this kind of law I guess.
