Guest neesy111
Barton still hasn't answered why he rejected a new contract in late January. If you refuse a contract you can't expect another one to be on the table when you feel like it. Again many fans are brought into what he says as they think like that, he's just playing the fans as every player, manager etc does. Aye, said that himself at local talk-ins didn't he? Nice Tweet to ask him.

Well, I wasn't at them so I'm I supposed to read his mind?!? The only thing I heard from those talk-in's was that he said Ben Arfa would be leaving which again is a load of shite from his mouth. Sorry, I wasn't saying he gave the answer at the talk-ins, just that he confirmed (at them) that he had already rejected a contract offer. Fair do's. Which goes to what I'm saying, he'll happily tweet away when it's stuff he can get on his fan's sides about, but won't answer any questions when it's on the other front. Guest
January was when he was at his peak for us, probably thought by the summer we'd be begging him cap in hand to stay.

That's the way twitter is used by all the celebrities tbf. No on is answering sorts of difficult questions.
Wallace
From what I recall at the talk in, he said that they were very close to agreeing a deal in January but then the goalposts were moved and then the Carroll thing happened which made him stop and think about the direction of the club, so he was decided to delay the discussions till the end of the season. alexthegreat
I don't think we really want him. There is going to be hardly any experienced players in this squad by the end of the window Coloccini is 29 but is on an 80k a week deal he got before Lllambias came in and a general change in policy was made, so will be impossible to move on. Williamson is 27 but will not be a high earner. Smith is for sale. Lovenkrands only has a year left and could well be surplus to requirements. Shola will never leave. That leaves Barton and Gutierrez as the only outfield players in the squad aged 27 or over, Jonas with 2 years on his contract, Barton with only 1. ads
Barton: Toon told me they wouldn't raise my wages by 1p Published 11:23 16/06/11 By Ian Cruise (1) Recommend (1) lampard-barton-chelsea-newcastle-cropped Joey Barton says he is just "a pawn" at Newcastle - and that the club refused him even a 1pm pay rise. The controversial midfielder, whose contract is up at the end of next season, told Talksport: "I dont want to go, but thats football. The clubs are the ones with the power and were just employees. If the football club wants a change of direction then the players are used as pawns and moved on or pushed out. "I believe in my ability and if Newcastle dont think Ill play past 29 then more fool them and Ill go and ply my trade elsewhere Barton said he attempted to broker a new deal earlier this year "but I got a call saying there would be no negotiation. I was told they werent going to offer even 1p a week more. I was a bit taken aback. but thats football. I believe in my ability and if Newcastle dont think Ill play past 29 then more fool them and Ill go and ply my trade elsewhere." The former Manchester City and England man said he would do his best for Newcastle in the 2011/12 season but expected to quit at the end of the campaign. He said: Id be very surprised if I leave this summer. Ive had a few phone calls about interest and would I go here, or do that. Thats the nature of the game. Unless someone can offer me the opportunity to play at the next level, and thats the Champions League, I wont be leaving the club. He's been here since 2007 and has had 1 good season. I don't imagine he's on a pittance either. I think he needs to remember some of the shit he's been through where we've stuck by him. Cronky
Keep talking, Joey. At this rate, you're more likely to end up in the Championship than the Champions League.
AyeDubbleYoo
Didn't he realise he was never going to get a pay rise? I would have though the negotiations would be about the size of the pay cut. He agreed to a pay cut. The problem is the length of the contract. Fair enough, the headline talks about not getting a pay rise... on closer inspection the quotes don't even mention it. Barton said he attempted to broker a new deal earlier this year "but I got a call saying there would be no negotiation. I was told they weren’t going to offer even 1p a week more. I was a bit taken aback. but that’s football. I believe in my ability and if Newcastle don’t think I’ll play past 29 then more fool them and I’ll go and ply my trade elsewhere." On even closer inspection they do mention it! My brain doesn't seem to be working today.
DJ_NUFC
Barton: I want to stay at Newcastle. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/928477/joey-barton:-i-want-to-stay-at-newcastle?cc=5901 Joey Barton has expressed his desire to stay at Newcastle, following on from his initial disappointment at the imminent departure of Magpies skipper Kevin Nolan. Barton tweeted angrily on Wednesday that more departures may occur after news surfaced that Nolan had gone for a medical examination at West Ham, where he is expected to be named the club's new captain on Thursday. Later, Barton revealed that he has no plans of heading toward the exit door at St James' Park, if given the option. "I have got no ambitions to leave the football club, I don't want to leave the football club. I would love nothing more so than to win a trophy at Newcastle, the same way as a number of players. Whether I get the opportunity to do that is out of my hands," he told Sky Sports News. 28-year-old Barton has reportedly been told that his current deal, which expires in 12-months, will not be renewed at Newcastle. However, the midfielder pledged his loyalty to the club on Wednesday evening, and said he had faith that the team would come out of Nolan's likely transfer in a strong position. "Obviously, it would be a great disappointment to lose Kev. He's a great pal and I think he has done fantastically for the football club. But this is the game we are in, unfortunately. Sometimes it is a little bit like ships in the night. "Hopefully, the move breaks down, but if it doesn't, you have got to believe in the process of the football club, and no one player is bigger than the football club," he said. Guest neesy111
Barton need's to shutup, wait for pre-season and let his football do the talking. If he does that, then other clubs will pay him what he wants or he will change the mind's of those at the top at NUFC.

It looked like he'd been spoken to by the club with the change of tone. However, this mornings interview on Talksport (those above) doesn't do him many favours again. Just doesn't seem to realise when to keep quiet.

STM
He's going to leave and it's going to be a mess too. He'll be fucking kicking and screaming about it. I predict carnage when the club tell him they have accepted an offer for him, from someone like West Ham.
midds
Bearing in mind the acrimonious way he left City for us (and his insistence on pocketing his £300k 'loyalty' payment) I wouldn't be surprised if he dug his heels in and sees this new season out. IIRC the transfer would have broken down and we had to cough up the extra so City could pass it on to Barton. Must admit I'm getting a bit sick of the situation now though. Tisd09
The more I hear from him the more I'm thinking he's trying to make his position untenable, so the club snap and list him so he can blame them. He needs to stop this rent a gob stuff. It is a little refreshing at 1st, but hearing stuff like what ge said about England earlier this year was cringe worthy.
