We were loaning players to Premier League teams back then because they couldn't get a game for us in Division 1. Footballs changed. Go for what works now. If we are to buy someone though, which I doubt we will, shouldn't we buy players that may be able to step up to the PRem at some point instead of a 29 year old average Championshit Striker. Not when we need to get the wage bill down. Premiership quality equals at least 50k a week The only thing that stopped Tommy Smith becoming a great player rather than a good one is a lack of pace. Plus slower players like Alan Smith actually look quick in this league. Smith plays right wing and can score and create in this league. Exactly what we need right now. If you were to combine work-rate and technique then compare players on this basis, you wouldn't find a better player in this league. He's the only player in our team with any sort of creative spark as well as having been our top scorer last season. He's a right-winger/second striker and has a bloody good return for his position, in terms of goals and assists. The only problem is, he's getting slightly old. Thankfully, he wants to stay down South (hence rejecting a move to Sheff Utd (He'd only displace his family for ~20k p/w)), so I think he's off to Reading anyway. Also: if you lot think he's 'beneath' you, or not good enough in any way, you're completely and utterly deluded. You're a Championship team and he has been one of the best Championship players consistently over the past two seasons. You're not going to be signing Lionel Messi anytime soon. WBA defended so deep that they'd be punished if we got some good crosses in. Fucking off Jonas and getting Smith is what this team really needs. Based on most of Jonas' career on the left its pretty obvious its his favoured position.
